The 2026 "Sisters Riding the Waves" competition attracted the attention of Vietnamese audiences because of the participation of female singer Trang Phap.
During the performance on the evening of April 11th, Trang Phap's group went head-to-head with Li Xiaoran's group.
Despite performing better, the group had to accept defeat, causing Trang Phap to burst into tears right on stage.
Many viewers believe that the "Wish-Recording Memo" performance by Li Xiaoran, Tang Yixin, and Wang Meng was arguably the worst performance in all seasons of "Sisters Riding the Waves."
On the Chinese social media platform Weibo, many viewers commented that the producers would favor Li Xiaoran's group even if they performed poorly, because she is one of the contestants with the highest level of discussion and attracts the most viewers in the show.
A behind-the-scenes clip showing the reactions of the "Sisters" during the PK elimination round against the "Fighting Techniques" team is circulating on social media. Notably, while others were intently watching on screen from beginning to end, Li Xiaoran, Wang Meng, and Tang Yixin were sitting with their legs crossed and scrolling through their phones.
This is not only disrespectful to the artists but also raises suspicions that Li Xiaoran's team knew the outcome beforehand, which is why they didn't seem worried. Netizens analyzed that, preparing for their group's performance, they should have been anxious or focused on the opposing team's performance, not leisurely doing personal things backstage.
Therefore, many believe that the show's organizers had a pre-planned script, favoring more famous faces to advance further in the competition, regardless of whether they sang well or not. Li Xiaoran is a famous actress, with top voting numbers and high recognition. Wang Meng is an Olympic champion and a national pride, so the organizers are believed to favor her to advance further in the competition.
Here, suspicions of rigged results intensified when the screen displayed information that Trang Phap had to compete against Tieu Tuong in the second qualifying round, even though Trang Phap's team had only just performed their first act. The show's producers in Vietnam had to post a statement, apologizing to viewers live on the livestream and explaining that this was a contingency plan to prepare for various possible situations – in this case, Trang Phap having to compete against Tieu Tuong.
After her team lost in episode 2 of 'Riding the Wind', singer Trang Phap burst into tears and hugged the eliminated member, Duy Nina, calling her 'an amazing older sister'.
"Nina, you're truly an amazing older sister. Thank you for being with me from the very beginning of this journey. In my eyes, you're the lovely 'recharging station' of the One More Time team. We'll see each other soon, I love you all so much!", Trang Phap expressed her affection for Duy Nina on the evening of April 11th.
As for Duy Nina, she broke down in tears and shared her wish that "anyone could leave, except Trang Phap." She revealed that the Vietnamese singer faced immense pressure throughout the training process, even losing sleep due to anxiety about having to learn two difficult songs in Chinese simultaneously.
Following the broadcast, the female singer entered the top 10 most searched keywords on Weibo with the phrase "Trang Phap sings Chinese well". At the same time, the keyword "Feeling sorry for Trang Phap's team" rose to the number one spot on the search rankings, demonstrating the great interest of the online community in the competing team.
Wind Riding 2026: Trang Phap suffers a disastrous drop in ranking, placing 28th out of 33, training until 4 AM.
