Following the incident, Communications Minister Fahmi said Malaysia is committed to supporting the development of creative industries and freedom of expression. "However, never touch sensitive issues of the community, especially those that are contrary to the traditions and values of the local culture," he said.

The Malaysian government in March introduced stricter guidelines, including dress code and manners, for foreigners entering Malaysia, citing the need to protect sensitive things.

The Malaysian government also announced that it will uphold the principles of Islam and will not recognize LGBT rights. In May, Malaysian authorities confiscated watches manufactured by Swiss company Swatch from the "Pride Collection" in support of gay people.
