Recently, Mydaily reported that MC Moddam Kachapa received a lot of criticism for his comments about Lisa's (BLACKPINK) solo debut. That has affected the image of Kpop idols from Thailand such as BamBam (GOT7) and Nichkhun (2PM).
Specifically, in the program Chae Show aired on GMM 25, while discussing the release of solo product Lalisa, Kachapa said that he had never seen a Thai superstar come this far. A netizen posted a clip on Twitter about Kachapa's rude comments and discovered that the male MC had previously made similar comparisons between idols. This has caused the Kpop fan community to be surprised and indignant with these comments.
It is this MC's one-sided evaluations that has made fans of other Thai-born idols such as BamBam (GOT7) and Nichkhun (2PM) "furious", many fans even asked this MC to give Apologies on television. Immediately, this controversy quickly exploded on Twitter. The fans together pushed the hashtag to ask the show's MC to correct his controversial comments.
It was he who gave the comparison between Thai artists in general and Thai idols operating in Korea in particular. Many people also believe that the MC's statement means that BamBam and Nichkhun do not promote and propagate Thai images and culture in their music products and activities.
Not long after, the hashtag "BanModdam" (roughly translated: "BanModdam") reached more than 1.2 million tweets. The BamBam hashtag is also trending with over 550k tweets and many other hashtags like "ApologizeToBamBam" and "RespectBamBam" ("Sorry BamBam" and "Respect BamBam") are still being used by fans. Seemingly realizing the controversy was breaking out, BamBam immediately took to Twitter and posted a tweet that comforted fans: "Never mind! There are still many people who have not recognized their efforts but you guys. Fans understand and acknowledge it. That makes me extremely happy."
Finally, Moddam Kachapa posted an apology on his personal Instagram, "I want to apologize to Bambam and all the fans for what I said in the broadcast. Nichkhun and Bambam are both pride. proud of the Thai people. I deeply admire their talent." Kachapa added, "I did not think carefully before speaking and created misunderstandings that affected Nichkhun and Bambam. I will absorb all suggestions and criticisms from fans to improve. themselves and work seriously in the future". Besides, Chae Show also re-posted Kachapa's apology on the official Instagram account. However, fans expressed dissatisfaction with Kachapa's apology and continued to call for a boycott of the male MC.
It is still unclear what will happen regarding this MC's future, fans are constantly calling for more drastic action from the station and the MC. However, in the midst of the controversy, many people still appreciate and recognize the talent and good relationship between Lisa, BamBam and Nichkhun.
It is known that Lisa's LALISA MV has officially reached 100 million views displayed on YouTube. Thus, LALISA only took 2 days, 1 hour and 9 minutes of release to reach this huge view milestone. This achievement helps Lisa temporarily break the record of the fastest speed of reaching 100 million views (for a solo artist) which has existed for 8 years of MV Gentleman (PSY). Before that, senior PSY took 2.8 days to bring Gentleman to 100 million views. Although it is still waiting for YouTube to confirm the exact number, with a "lightning speed" thanks to great support from fans, Lisa must have been very proud of this achievement. In terms of artists' MVs worldwide, Lisa also ranked 6th, losing to a series of other products from BTS and her own group, BLACKPINK.
