Jason Quang Vinh: Half Vietnamese, following Xuan Son to the national team, replacing Van Hau?

With Xuan Son's contributions in the recent ASEAN CUP season, the viewpoint on using naturalized players for the Vietnam National Team has turned to support and openness. Jason Quang Vinh is in this case.

Jason Quang Vinh Pendant or Jason Pendant was born on February 9, 1997 in Sarcelles, of French-Vietnamese descent with a father of French origin of Martinique and a mother of Vietnamese descent. The 27-year-old player plays as a central defender and left-back.

Jason Quang Vinh Pendant started his football career at local club Sarcelles AAS before joining Sochaux, a club that has spent most of its time in Ligue 2 and has produced talented players such as El-Hadji Diouf, Jeremy Menez, Yannick Stopyra and Bernard Genghini. After impressive performances for the Sochaux first team in the 2016/17 season, he was signed by the club's management to a professional contract.

On January 23, 2018, Jason Quang Vinh Pendant scored his first goal since turning professional, after scoring for Sochaux against Colomiers in the Coupe de France and was voted the club's player of the month. When coach Park Hang-seo came to "watch his legs", he was still playing for Sochaux.

Jason Quang Vinh Pendant began to attract the attention of Vietnamese fans in 2019 not only because of his ideal profile but also because of his middle name "Quang Vinh". With most Vietnamese-American players of mixed bloo.d, the public usually only sees the Vietnamese part of the name if the player's father is Vietnamese, then he will have a Vietnamese surname.

However, the word "Quang Vinh" in Jason's name partly shows that the family of the defender born in 1997 always looks towards his homeland and is also a reminder to the player himself that he has Vietnamese bloo.d flowing in him.

At the same time, Jason Quang Vinh Pendant repeatedly expressed his desire to wear the Vietnamese national team jersey and was ready to devote himself to his mother's homeland. The VFF highly appreciates Jason's ability and hopes that with his experience in two strong football leagues in the world, France and the US, this player can contribute to the Vietnam national team in the near future. However, due to some problems and urgent paperwork, he will not be able to obtain Vietnamese nationality before the ASEAN Cup 2024.

In March this year, the Vietnamese team will begin their journey to qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup with a home match against Laos. In the next 2 months, if Jason Quang Vinh Pendant is naturalized in time, coach Kim Sang-sik will have another quality option on the left wing.

Currently, this position of the Vietnam team has Khuat Van Khang, Nguyen Van Vi, but they are not the optimal choices like when Van Hau was still playing. With his outstanding performance in the Hanoi Police uniform, integrating very well and helping the left wing to be more mobile, stronger and safer, Jason Quang Vinh Pendant is the most suitable candidate to replace the Doan defender.

He is quite young and plays in the position that needs to be strengthened, which is the full-back left by Doan Van Hau. Although VFF has provided a lot of support, many factors are needed for Van Hau to recover and return. This is a very difficult case.

If we have Quang Vinh, I think Van Hau's vacant position will be filled, which is good for the team. However, we still have to consider whether Quang Vinh is suitable for the coach's tactics or not. If so, he will definitely be called. Currently, the Hanoi Police club is promoting to start applying for naturalization for Quang Vinh."
