James Francis Cameron (born 1954) is a Canadian filmmaker and environmental activist. He is famous for making science fiction and epic films, such as: Alines (1986), Titanic (1997), Avatar (2009) ...
Cameron began to receive attention from the public as the director of the cult film - Terminator (1984). He continued his success with Aliens (1986), The Abyss (1989), Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) and the sensational comedy True Lies (1994).
The film Titanic earned him Academy Awards in the categories of Best Picture, Best Director and Best Editing. Avatar, filmed in 3D, earned him nominations in similar categories.
In addition to his filmmaking career, James Cameron is an ocean explorer for National Geographic; he has produced numerous documentaries on the subject, including Ghosts of the Abyss (2003) and Aliens of the Deep (2005).
He also contributed to the development of underwater filming technology and remote filming facilities, and helped create the Fusion Camera System digital 3D camera system. In 2012, Cameron became the first person to dive to the bottom of the Mariana Trench on his own using the submersible Deepsea Challenger.
According to statistics, Cameron's films grossed a total of $ 2 billion in the North American market and $ 6 billion worldwide, of which Avatar and Titanic are the two highest-grossing and third-highest grossing films of all time, bringing in $ 2.85 billion and $ 2.19 billion, respectively.
Cameron is also admired by film fans for his track record as the director of two of the first five films that grossed more than $2 billion worldwide. In 2010, Time magazine named Cameron one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
James Cameron was born and raised in Ontario (Canada) - in the family of an electrical engineer father and a nurse mother. After moving with his family to the United States, Cameron completed high school, continuing to pursue physics at a college in California.
At the age of 20, James Cameron decided to drop out of school to pursue his dream of directing. He went through many occupations to make a living, including janitor and truck driver. By 1977, after watching Star Wars, he decided to quit driving to pursue his passion for cinema.
The father of the "blockbuster" Titanic began to find technical jobs in the film industry to get closer to his life's dream. He challenged a series of roles such as props and visual effects of film crews, before convincing producers to spend money on the script for The Terminator.
James Cameron is like the Midas hand of Hollywood when the films he participates in have grossed many times higher than the cost. The proof is that The Terminator only cost $ 6.5 million but earned up to $ 78 million. It also ushered in a billion-dollar entertainment franchise for Hollywood.
Perhaps it is his recklessness, hard work, always towards perfection and timeless filmmaking thinking that has made James Cameron known as the "king of the box office" - when his work has grossed more than $ 6 billion worldwide.
According to critics and colleagues, James Cameron is so thorough that he always wants every process in the production stage to be perfected at a perfect level. He worked on the idea of Avatar 2: The Way Of Water in 2010, shortly after the first film rose to become the biggest hit film of all time.
It is known that this is also the only project the director has focused on pursuing during the past 13 years. In the early stages, many ideas were put forward and dismissed not long after. James Cameron said that he felt that they were not new enough or meaningful enough to continue the success of the old part.
Mike Ryan of Uproxx had praise for James Cameron's latest work: " Never bet against James Cameron. While I've tried to avoid hype, I've never seen anything like this from a visual, technical standpoint... Sometimes I miss plot details because I'm binge-watching a fish on Pandora." This reviewer thinks that basically Avatar: The Way Of Water has better and deeper character development.
Collider's Perri Nemiroff called Avatar: The Way Of Water a great work. " I was convinced that James Cameron would raise the bar with the effects but these images are incredible. Beautiful frames just go after another."
Ian Sandwell of Digital Spy reviewed: " It's no surprise that Avatar: The Way Of Water is a visual masterpiece. It has a thin story and too many characters to juggle, but James Cameron brings it all together to create an extraordinary, emotional final scene and thrilling action."
Kara Warner of People shared, " As an Avatar fan, I had a lot of expectations for Avatar: The Way Of Water and for me it absolutely worked. Sure it's a bit long but deserves stunning visuals, great new characters. A complete thrill."
After the success of Avatar 2, James Cameron is now continuing to spend time perfecting the sequels to the series. Currently, the 68-year-old director has finished filming Avatar 3 and part of season 4. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in a recent interview, the talented director revealed that he wants to tell an epic story through many films and paint a bigger picture.
