After nearly 1 decade of being crowned Miss Universe, Pia Wurtzbach has had her share that attracted attention from fans. According to the reveal, the Filipino beauty has suffered from mental health problems, even depression.

Pia Wurtzbach rose to international fame after being crowned Miss Universe 2015, giving the Philippines the prestigious Miss Universe crown after 42 years of waiting.

After 9 years of winning the crown, appearing at an event in Intramuros, Manila - Philippines last week, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach opened up about her mental health issues after being crowned Miss Universe.

She said: "After winning Miss Universe 2015, I thought it was medicine to ease all my childhood trauma and all the rejections. But it wasn't. This has made my pain greater."

"I thought, God, I've found my purpose in life. I won Miss Universe and that's it. But every day, I feel like I have to keep proving why I deserve it, more especially because of the incident of giving the wrong crown that year," she added.

Although she is grateful for the title, Pia also confessed that she used to feel bad, even depressed, because of the victory.

"I felt I had to prove that I deserved that win. It's hard. I was being too myself and was in the worst situation I'd never been in before, and I hid that from everyone. I think I've found my value and I think people recognize my value as well," she said.

After 9 years, thanks to her mentors, Pia has dealt with her fears and hurts.

"It's been 9 years now and what I've learned is that my worth isn't measured by the crown or the title, the number of likes I get on every post or the brands that decide to partner with me. These things are fleeting. One day, I won't be young anymore. I'm not going to be this healthy anymore and I probably won't have such a large audience to listen to me anymore," Pia said.

Although winning Miss Universe is the pinnacle of her career, Pia believes that her success does not stop there.

"I deserve it because I have escaped the shackles that society imposes on me. I'm in control to achieve my dreams, and those dreams range from career opportunities to family goals. Also, the long-term impact that the activities I build will have on society," she said.

She said: "Nothing makes me happier than knowing that my stories can somehow inspire and motivate others to achieve their dreams too. We deserve this. We deserve to dream big, we deserve to win, to be happy and to have a balanced life."
