On August 21, Ngoc Chau and her family held a solemn and elaborate nine-headed ceremony for her mother. The two runners-up Thuy Tien and Le Hang also went to Tay Ninh to encourage and help Ngoc Chau and her family prepare the ceremony. In the image shared by runner-up Le Hang on her personal page, Ngoc Chau is playing with her nephew. Her face clearly shows a tired look. However, this great loss came too soon when many of Ngoc Chau's good wishes for 'Ma Bay' were still unfinished. On August 13, Ngoc Chau's management company announced the sad news that Ms. Dang Thi Gai (also known as Ma Bay) - the beauty queen's mother had passed away. During this time, Ngoc Chau temporarily stopped all activities to help her family take care of the funeral.

Many Vietnamese stars and audiences sent condolences and encouragement to Ngoc Chau. On August 15, Ngoc Chau's mother was buried at Tan Tay Hamlet Cemetery, Tan Hung Commune.

The collision that caused Ngoc Chau's mother to pass away happened at 9:25 a.m. on August 13 on Highway 785 (through Tan Hoa Hamlet, Tan Phu Commune, Tan Chau District). Accordingly, the bus with license plate 70H - 050.15 driven by driver VVT (born in 1989, residing in Tan Chau District) was traveling from Tan Hung Commune to Tan Phu Commune. When reaching the above section, the bus collided with a motorbike with license plate 70K1 - 016.48 driven by Ms. Dang Thi Gai (born in 1963, residing in Tan Chau District) traveling from Tan Thanh Hamlet to Highway 785. The collision occurred, Ms. Gai was injured and taken to the Tan Chau District Medical Center for emergency treatment but did not survive.
