Ticketmaster - the ticket issuer to attend Taylor Swift's Eras tour series - is being extorted millions of dollars by a group of hackers. This group claims to have obtained barcode data of hundreds of thousands of tickets to the concert.

If Ticketmaster does not give a ransom, the group will leak ticket information online.

To intimidate, the hacker group posted some data for Taylor Swift's performances in Indianapolis, Miami and New Orleans. The group also revealed that they own 30 million barcodes for concerts and other popular sporting events, not just Taylor Swift's tour.

According to initial information, the ShinyHunters hacker group is believed to have caused the incident. The group has been involved in a number of attacks on companies including Santander Bank, AT&T, Microsoft and others.

Ticketmaster claims their ticketing technology has prevented leaked barcodes by refreshing them every few seconds. The unit also confirmed that it did not provide data to hackers.

Although ShinyHunters has access to Taylor Swift's concert ticketing data, including information on tickets for the next nine days in three U.S. cities, experts say ticket inspectors or organizers still have more sophisticated measures to prevent it.

According to the Guardian, recent cyberattacks have targeted large corporations and public institutions. Analysts estimate that many victims have paid $1.1 billion in ransoms in 2023.

In early 2024, ShinyHunters allegedly accessed Ticketmaster's data to steal the names, payment information, phone numbers, ticket sales, and other data of about 560 million passengers.

As for the security in ticket sales, Taylor Swift has complained a lot because this process affects the audience's experience and her mood during the tour.
