Singer Khanh Ly is considered one of the most famous female singers of the Saigon music industry before 1975 and later abroad.

Along with Thai Thanh and Le Thu, Khanh Ly is considered as one of the three most representative female singers of Vietnamese lyrical music.

Khanh Ly's name is often mentioned next to musician Trinh Cong Son, and she is considered the best Trinh singer ever.

After 1975, singer Khanh Ly left Vietnam and settled in Cerritos, California, USA. During the years in the country of chess, she toured everywhere to bring the beauty of Trinh music to Europe.

Singer Khanh Ly's first love affair was with a pilot soldier named Hai. They met when Khanh Ly was only about 14-15 years old. After Khanh Ly got married, the two met by chance in a dance hall in Pleiku. The unexpected fateful reunion became the last meeting in life. Hai suddenly died in a plane explosion right after meeting her, leaving Khanh Ly with unspeakable injustices.

The second love is also Khanh Ly's first husband. That year, Khanh Ly was 16 years old. At an impulsive, frivolous age, always liking to go against her parents' wishes, Khanh Ly fell into the fun with her brother's friends and as a result, she became pregnant with a friend of her brother. Although her husband is a playboy, but was born in a religious family, knows how to take responsibility for the consequences, so a quick wedding was held in the church.

Khanh Ly followed her husband to Da Lat, gave birth and became a bride. However, getting married and having children did not make Khanh Ly grow up faster, she was still carefree and innocent with her marriage and with both children being born in turn.

Although the family lives in Da Lat, Khanh Ly's husband is often dispatched to work far away, rarely returning home. For all personal expenses and children, Khanh Ly often has to pay for herself because her husband's salary is just enough for him to spend. After 5 years of cold marriage, Khanh Ly broke up with her husband and brought her two children back to Saigon.

The singer's second husband is also a soldier named Mai Ba Trac. They met in 1967. He was a handsome, charming, polite man and loved by many women. The two have a daughter together named Mai Mai Misa. But this marriage did not last long, in 1973, the two people went their separate ways but the main reason was that he was too peachy.

In 1975, Khanh Ly took her three children to America. A life without a husband, without money, without a miserable job in a foreign country has made the once famous female singer cry many times. She had to do a lot of manual jobs to earn money to support her children, including the arduous work of janitors and toilet cleaners.

The meeting with journalist Nguyen Hoang Doan in the US created a new turn for Khanh Ly's life in the foreign country. Compared to the position of a big star in the artistic sky like Khanh Ly, Nguyen Hoang Doan is just a faint shadow behind his wife. However, this is the man Khanh Ly needs - A simple but sincere man who is behind all the success in Khanh Ly's career abroad.

Khanh Ly said, when they first met in the US, he asked her if she needed anything. She said she needed cups and chopsticks to eat rice. So, he immediately ran to buy 6 cups and 6 pairs of chopsticks to bring back to her. Mr. Doan's enthusiasm and warmth made their relationship more cordial.

After a few months of meeting, Mr. Doan said: "I don't have a family here, you don't have a family either. What do you think when we combine into a family?". After pondering, she nodded. It was 1976, two people moved in together, relied on each other, and together overcome the first difficult days in the foreign country.

A few years later, Khanh Ly gradually found a job to sing again. When she started to have a better income from singing and needed to develop her career, he retired to work as her back.

He said: "I work as a journalist, so I think I also have the blood of an artist. When I married Khanh Ly, I definitely quit my job, cut off my career to work for my wife. I edited music. music, video recording... it's also an interesting discovery and I'm passionate about it.Even, I feel happier than when I work as a journalist.I still remember in 1997, when a Japanese station did a reportage. About Khanh Ly's life, they interviewed me, I answered like this: Marry Khanh Ly, I consider myself a dead person. to preserve, to support Khanh Ly to bring her singing to serve the people. For me, there is nothing."

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Doan's dedication to her, to Khanh Ly's singing and to their common family made their marriage strong until the very end until Mr. Hoang Doan passed away in 2015.
