As one of the most experienced artists in the Chinese entertainment industry, Cung Lam Na is loved by many people for her traditional Chinese music style. Although she is not too prominent, but when it comes to the song "Lost" - the most difficult song in the world to sing, it is known by many people.
Cung Lam Na was born in Guiyang, Guizhou, on August 1, 1975. From a young age, she suffered many scandals because her face was not beautiful. Cung Lam Na once recounted that when she was a child, adults used to tell her that if she could change her face with her younger brother, she would be more beautiful. That is the reason why Cung Lam Na is self-deprecating about her appearance and especially hates pink, because she thinks pink is only for beautiful girls, but she is not.
Although she did not have an excellent appearance, she soon revealed a rare musical talent. The female singer knew how to sing since the age of 3, first performed on television at the age of 5. Both her father and mother are famous singers and musicians in their homeland, so they have high expectations for their daughter. Most of her songs are traditional mixed with modern music.
In 1992, she enrolled at the Middle School of the China Conservatory of Music, where she studied national vocal music under the direction of Zou Wenqin. After graduating from high school, she was accepted into the China Conservatory of Music.
In 2002, Cung Lam Na first met German composer Robert Zollitsch - known in Chinese as Lao La in Beijing, China. The two then made field trips to provinces such as Guizhou, Shaanxi and Fujian to learn and preserve local folk music. In 2004, both artists shared a house and had 2 sons.
In the years that followed, she performed many works composed by her husband, and also collaborated with Portuguese fado musician António Chainho. Her style is a combination of "light" and "air" in a centuries-old traditional melody with modern lyrics.
During her singing career of more than 40 years, she has released many music products but is famous for only one song titled "Lost".
The song "Lost" uses a variety of voices from Chinese opera such as: old man, old man, flower dan... along with traditional musical instruments such as drums, gongs, and syllabaries. The work has a fast tempo, constantly changing sound nuances, requiring the performer to have good vocal technique and vocal endurance.
Cung Lam Na performed this song in the 2010 New Year concert of Hunan Television. The performance became a "phenomenon", the audience enjoyed the performance of the female singer. The song then also spread throughout China and many countries around the world. It is honored as a "divine song", it is considered the most difficult song in the world to sing. Besides, the song is also spread among the Tamil community in southern India because Ayyo in Tamil is the name of Yama.
Fame and attraction from the performance made Cung Lam Na a star name. She was selected to perform in many important programs on national television, invitations to advertising cooperation, commercial product release...
In 2013, she participated in the TV show produced in Jiangsu called All-Star Wars. Zollitsch also participates as her sponsor. Her first performance was a rock version of a classic pop ballad based on an ancient poem, "Wish We Last Forever", but this interpretation was deemed not reverent enough and received the lowest marks.
However, her later performances were well received, including a Yunnan folk song "Rippling Brook" and an opera ensemble of "Lost".
Being sought-after everywhere, the female artist is caught up in the busy rhythm of life. Public pressure and negative prejudice caused the female singer to fall into a state of depression. Therefore, Cung Lam Na decided to move from Beijing to Dali, Yunnan to live. Her new home in a rural area, with mountains and rivers, made her feel at peace.
"Singers have to cultivate themselves, have a quiet nature. There's not too much hustle here, and there's no need to think about the pursuit of fame and gain. On the contrary, it brings me closer to art. I want to do it. profession with the purest and most optimistic spirit", Cung Lam Na shared.
Recently, Cung Lam Na re-appeared as one of the 33 contestants participating in the reality show Dap Gio 2023. Right from the moment she appeared on the show, the female singer born in 1975 has been evaluated as one formidable player because she possesses extremely skilled vocal techniques.
Her collaboration with the Japanese female idol Maria with the song Sea of Flowers has made many people fall in love. Although only second in the total number of votes, but on Chinese music streaming platforms Blibli and Weibo, this song achieved very high rankings.
In the latest broadcast, she was also noticed by many Vietnamese fans when she collaborated with Chi Pu in Chou Kiet Luan's Rosemary.
Chow's music is considered to have a harmonious combination of Western hip hop and R&B with Chinese music. The male singer has used many different world music elements into his products, typically in the song Rosemary, the bossa nova - which is a Brazilian music genre. Thus, having to perform a song that blends many styles and bears the stamp of "C-pop king" Chau Kiet Luan will be a difficult problem for Cung Lam Na and his teammates.
With her return on this show, Cung Lam Na is expected by many long-time fans to regain her former glory and release many new works in the future.
