Doan Trang's daughter does the unthinkable, mother suddenly sheds tears of pride for her daughter

The touching story of singer Doan Trang and her daughter, Sol, offers a ray of hope that students can protect each other and fight against physical aggression in schools.

Recently, Doan Trang shared an emotional story about her daughter Sol’s action of protecting her classmate at an event that took place on November 25. The story happened four years ago, when Doan Trang’s family had just settled in Singapore.

On her first day of school, little Sol witnessed a boy hitting and pinching his Indian girlfriend. Despite being only 6 years old, Sol boldly spoke up to defend her, reminding her boyfriend that such an action was wrong and unacceptable in a multicultural environment.

The 6-year-old girl used English to tell the other boy: "You can't do that. We come from many countries, we have to love and care for each other." Because someone else witnessed his behavior, the other boy was scared and promised not to do it again. The girl's words helped stop the bullying on the spot and made the boy promise not to do it again.

Only later did Doan Trang and Sol realize that the bullying had been going on for some time. The Indian girl, facing fear every day at school, felt like a dark battle. Although her mother felt sorry for her, she could do nothing without clear evidence, and the teacher could not intervene because she did not directly witness the incident.

Doan Trang shared that that week, she saw that her daughter received a "Star of the Week" certificate. She thought it was just a small reward like the good kids certificates in kindergarten, and didn't pay much attention to it. But a while later, when Doan Trang took Sol to visit her Indian girlfriend's house, her friend's mother invited her in for tea. During the conversation, the mother burst into tears as she recounted that it was Sol who protected her daughter from being bullied. At that moment, Doan Trang couldn't hold back her emotions and cried with her. She felt sorry for the bullied child, but also proud of her child for his brave actions in protecting his friends.

During the event, Doan Trang praised her daughter and encouraged her to continue to maintain her spirit. Attending the event with her mother, Sol said that when she protected her girlfriend, she was not afraid that her boyfriend would hit her back. The 10-year-old girl affirmed that bullying at school is wrong.

Sol's actions are not only a small example of fighting against school violence, but also an inspiration for singer Doan Trang when making the MV "Lover".

The song, created as part of a gender equality competition organised by UN Women, reflects on the topic of school violence and encourages students to protect themselves and seek support from the community. Both Doan Trang and little Sol were moved when watching the music video, which emphasises the message of the need to eliminate violence in the educational environment.

"Lover" is the song that won first prize in the poetry and songwriting contest on gender equality organized by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) in Vietnam in 2023.

The contest is part of the program "Eliminate violence against women and children in Vietnam 2021-2025", sponsored by the Australian government. In addition to "Lover", four other songs were also made into MVs, including "Freedom", "Boys and Girls", "Chu lat dat" and "Khuc ca phat gioi".

All five MVs were released in response to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, November 25, with a strong message about fighting violence and promoting gender equality.

In addition, through these songs and campaigns, a strong call for action has been sent to everyone: We need to join hands, not stand still when witnessing violence or gender discrimination, but speak up, support and contribute to building a fair society, respecting and loving each other.

With school violence still a burning issue, the story of Doan Trang and her daughter is a powerful reminder of the importance of protecting friends, and encourages students to speak up and take action to prevent misconduct in schools.
