Social media is abuzz with debate over engagement photos taken in Hanoi, where the bride's sister-in-law, wearing a cream-white ao dai (traditional Vietnamese dress), is accused of "stealing the spotlight" from her sister-in-law. She is also criticized for her lack of tact in positioning herself between the main couple in the commemorative photos.
When "the enemy from the North" is accused of hijacking the broadcast on his younger brother's happy day.
The incident originated from a series of photos posted by Le Dang (born in 1999) on the Threads platform to commemorate her younger brother's big day. However, instead of receiving well wishes, the photos quickly went viral in a negative way. Many netizens openly expressed their displeasure at seeing the sister-in-law wearing an overly flashy traditional Vietnamese dress, with her heavily made-up face, and especially her pose standing right between the bride and groom.
The wave of criticism intensified when some opinions suggested that Le Dang had over-edited the photos, focusing only on her own beauty while neglecting the main subject, her sister-in-law, making the bride's image seem lackluster. Words like "tactless," "ridiculous," and "wanting to be the main character" constantly appeared under the post, pushing the story further as many began to fabricate stories about a strained relationship between the sister-in-law and her daughter-in-law on the engagement day.
The "would-be daughter-in-law" speaks out: The truth about her physique and family relationships.
Amidst the public outcry, Le Dang has officially spoken out to defend her honor and the peace of her family. She stated that she was shocked that an act of preserving memories had become the target of hatred. Regarding the accusation of "stealing the spotlight," Le affirmed that she had consulted and received the consent of both her younger brother and sister-in-law before posting. Contrary to speculations of a rift, she revealed that the sibling relationship is very close, and that her sister-in-law even comforted and encouraged her when she saw her being attacked online.
Regarding criticisms about her "fake" body editing, Le Dang frankly shared that her current job is a gym personal trainer (Gym PT). The stunning figure people see in her photos is the result of serious training and a healthy diet in real life. "I say no to using apps to slim my waist or hips. My figure is exactly as it is in real life; many people who have met me in person have recognized me," she affirmed. The female gym enthusiast said she felt upset that her images were manipulated and edited by malicious individuals, who then used those fake photos to criticize her.
Eager to put an end to the騒動 (commotion/controversy) before the official wedding day.
Despite having spoken out to explain, faced with relentless attacks on her personal page, Le Dang decided to delete the related posts to protect her privacy. She expressed her exhaustion that the story had been blown out of proportion, affecting the morale of her family members right before their wedding – the most important occasion for the couple.
Le Dang hopes the online community will have a more multifaceted and less critical view of everyday moments. She emphasized that in a modern family with a simple lifestyle like hers, it's perfectly normal and heartwarming for her older sister to dress neatly or stand alongside her younger siblings. Her explanation, like a cold shower for malicious rumors, serves as a plea to the public to return the peace so her family can fully enjoy the joy of their upcoming wedding.
