In the new recording released by screenwriter Co Nhi, Vuong Gia Wei is suspected of using a "summer camp" to collect scripts from young people. Notably, Tran Khon â Chau Tan was named as having used the same method to "steal ideas".
On November 8, screenwriter Gu Er (real name Cheng Tuan Nien) announced a new recording related to director Wang Jiawei, continuing to shake up the Chinese filmmaking world. In the conversation, Vuong Gia Wei proposed to use a film company to open a "summer camp" to collect scripts from young writers. However, what made the public outraged was the statement of a female screenwriter surnamed Hua (many people speculated that it was Hua Tu Yeu), when she bluntly said: "Tran Khon â Chau Tan has already used a similar method like this, the essence is to trick newcomers into taking the script and stealing ideas."
This statement directly pulled the names of two veteran stars Tran Khon and Chau Tan to the center of the case. The two have collaborated on many major projects and are considered acting icons of Chinese cinema. The fact that they were named in an internal exchange made the public bewildered and questioned the transparency of the filmmakers' script selection activities.
According to Co Nhi, the recording is part of a series of evidence he has collected over the years, in order to reflect the situation of "disguising recruitment" to appropriate gray matter from young screenwriters. Previously, he also publicized recordings between Wang Jiawei and screenwriter Qin Wen, including insulting words to veteran actors such as Chen Daoming and Jin Dong.
Currently, Tran Khon and Chau Tan have not given any response to being named in the recording. On social media forums, fans of the two artists are asking for clarification of the truth, and at the same time calling on the media not to make inferences without concrete evidence. Some people think that if the words of the screenwriter surnamed Hua are true, this is a big shock to the professional image that Tran Khon â Chau Tan has built over the past decades.
As for Wang Jiawei, he has not made any official moves after a series of leaked recordings. However, according to experts, this incident may seriously affect the reputation of the director who was once considered a "legend of Asian cinema". Some of the film projects he is in charge of are currently suspended or face the risk of withdrawal of investment capital.
Young screenwriters are also speaking out strongly on this issue. Many people believe that the use of fame by big names to "collect ideas" is an act that should be condemned and strictly controlled. A young screenwriter who spoke on condition of anonymity shared: "We are not afraid to share ideas, but if we are used as a background for others without being recognized, it is a blatant injustice."
The case is still being closely monitored. While waiting for the stakeholders to speak up, the public can't help but ask: Is this a wake-up call for China's film industry, where creativity is sometimes traded off by power and fame?
