Cardi B impresses with her vibrant performances, bold lyrics and eye-catching images. Besides music, she is known as a fashion icon and has humorous statements that go viral on social networks, but her personality has one minus point.
Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, better known by her stage name Cardi B, was born on October 11, 1987 in the Bronx, New York, to a family of Dominican and Trinidadian descent. She had a difficult childhood, working as a stripper to pay for her tuition and living expenses, after dropping out of high school. In many interviews, she proudly stated that this helped her escape the violence and difficulties in her personal relationship with her boyfriend at the time. This was also the period when Cardi developed a strong, outspoken personality and was not afraid to express her own unique personality.
Cardi B's career began to gain prominence when she starred on the reality show "Love & Hip Hop: New York" in 2015, where she made a name for herself with her humorous and outspoken social media personality. She released her debut mixtape Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 1 in late 2016, followed by a second in 2017. This was the first step that brought Cardi to Atlantic Records.
Her big break came in June 2017, when Cardi B released her single "Bodak Yellow". The song quickly rose to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making her the first female solo rapper to achieve this since Lauryn Hill in 1998. "Bodak Yellow" also earned her two Grammy nominations - Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song. After that, a series of hits such as "MotorSport", "No Limit", "Finesse" and especially " I Like It " (collaboration with Bad Bunny and J Balvin) continued to enter the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, creating a solid position for Cardi as a top female rapper in the world.
In 2018, Cardi released her debut studio album Invasion of Privacy, which received critical acclaim and won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album . The album also included hits such as "I Like It", "Be Careful", "Ring" (with Kehlani) and "Money".
In 2020, she continued to make a big splash with "WAP" (collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion), topping the Billboard Hot 100 for many consecutive weeks - a record for solo female rappers.
Cardi B has since released at least one major release in album form. She released the single "Up" in February 2021, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped her set a record for the most Billboard Hot 100 top-10s for a female rapper in a decade, with 11 songs to date.
From then until 2023, she mainly released singles and collaborations, while her second album was repeatedly delayed due to the pressure of perfection and high expectations.
Since early 2024, Cardi has released a series of new singles, including "Like What (Freestyle)" (released March 1), a freestyle version of Missy Elliott's "She's a Bitch", and a video directed by her ex-husband Offset. The song quickly reached the US top 40, becoming her 11th top-ten hit on Hot Rap Songs and Digital Songs.
It was followed by "Enough (Miami)" released on March 15, reaching No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 â Cardi's 12th topâten and receiving a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Performance at the 67th Grammy Awards.
Also in 2024, she collaborated with artists like Shakira on "PunterÃa," which reached No. 1 on Latin Airplay and held the top spot on Latin Pop Airplay for nine weeks. Cardi also made a surprise performance at Madonna's concert, appeared on the "Wanna Be" remix with Megan Thee Stallion & GloRilla, featured on Peso Pluma's "Put Em in the Fridge," and released a collaboration with Rob49 called "On Dat Money" on July 19.
However, according to many websites, these single products have not created a commensurate impact and are considered a series of "flops" after "WAP" - causing her music career to stagnate. She also expressed disappointment that even though she did not release an album, her fans did not support her current singles.
In her personal life, Cardi married rapper Offset in 2017. The couple has three children together: daughter Kulture Kiari Cephus, born on July 10, 2018; son Wave Set Cephus, born on September 4, 2021; and daughter Blossom Cephus, born on September 7, 2024, just one day after Cardi filed for final divorce from Offset. They officially divorced in 2024 after seven years of marriage with several separations and reconciliations.
Cardi once announced in a livestream that she had been single for a while and was ready for a fresh start.
In late 2024 and early 2025, Cardi B was spotted dating NFL player Stefon Diggs â starting in October 2024, and on February 14 in Miami celebrating Valentine's Day together.
She and Diggs first appeared together publicly at the NBA playoff game between the New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics at Madison Square Garden on May 12, 2025, where they held hands while cheering. There had been tension with Offset before, when he allegedly sent threatening text messages, but Offset later publicly expressed his support for Cardi's new relationship.
Cardi's musical comeback reached new heights in June 2025 with the single "Outside", released on June 20 and premiered at a Spotify event in Cannes two days earlier. The song debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 â her 13th top-ten, making her the female rapper with the most top-ten debuts (3) on the chart. The song also debuted at No. 1 on Digital Song Sales in the United States.
In terms of her lavish lifestyle, Cardi is famous for her collection of Hermès Birkin bags worth over $2 million, including many luxury ones like the Himalaya and House Birkin, which cost between $60,000 and $300,000 each. She even dyes her hair to match the color of her bag. In addition to handbags, she also owns many expensive supercars such as the Lamborghini Aventador, Urus, Bentley Bentayga, Mercedes-Maybach... although she admits that she does not have a driver's license and usually only uses supercars for photo shoots.
In terms of social activities, Cardi has made significant donations during the COVID-19 pandemic and other community events: she donated nearly $1 million to fight the pandemic, donated 20,000 meals to medical workers, contributed $100,000 to her elementary school in the Bronx, and paid for funeral expenses for victims of the 2022 Bronx fire.
Despite her fame, Cardi has not been immune to controversy. In 2023, she was involved in a case where she threw a microphone at a crowd at a show in Las Vegas and was investigated, but ultimately not prosecuted. The microphone was later auctioned off for nearly $100,000 to raise money for charity.
With all the above milestones, Cardi B clearly shows the image of an artist full of personality, not afraid to explore her own limits, always wanting to change and constantly creating resonance. From the Bronx to the halo, from the poor past to the assets and global fame of more than 24 million USD, Cardi deserves to be a cultural, artistic and contemporary icon.
