Recently, Allkpop reported that the group Blackpink won the Daesang in the singer category - Grand Prize Singer - at the 14th Seoul Success Awards held on November 21 at the Grand Hyatt Seoul Hotel.
While announcing Blackpink as the winner, the MC of the show praised Blackpink as a global girl group. This past September, the group released the album "Born Pink" and the album reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
However, this time, Blackpink is stuck in the schedule with a global tour in North America, so they cannot be present at the award ceremony. But there was a representative to accept the award on behalf of the group.
Seoul Success Awards is Korea's prestigious music awards ceremony organized by Sports Seoul. This is an award that is not voted by the audience but entirely voted by leading experts in the industry.
Seoul Success Awards not only awards the Grand Prize (or Daesang) to singers but also every other artistic field... Those who contribute to the development of the country through innovation, passion for excellence and recognition of achievements in different fields from politics, economy, culture and society.
Blackpink won the Daesang singer category that excited fans because it was the first Daesang in the group's career since their debut (2016).
Blackpink is increasingly increasing its reputation on a global scale, recording a series of new records and making their mark on international music charts.
Blackpink's album "Born Pink" is having its 9th consecutive week on the Billboard 200. Blackpink broke the record for an album released by a K-pop girl group in 2022 with the most weeks on the Billboard 200 chart. The previous record was set by TWICE's album "Between 1&2", which spent a total of 8 weeks on the chart.
Moreover, the album "Born Pink" became the second-longest surviving album on the Billboard 200 by a female K-pop artist, behind only Blackpink's own "The Album".
The group has also been continuously nominated at the world's prestigious music awards such as MTV VMAs, MTV EMAs, AMAs... Therefore, the fact that the group has never won Daesang domestically since their debut in 2016 is talked about by the public.
With the first Daesang trophy in their career, Blackpink has continued to extend their achievements and solidify their status as Korea's top girl group.
On the other hand, boy band BTS recently made history on YouTube, even breaking Blackpink's record.
According to Big Hit Music, BTS's music video for their hit song Dynamite surpassed 1.6 billion views on November 22. This is the group's second music video to achieve this incredible column one, after Boy With Luv.
BTS originally released Dynamite on August 21, 2020. Thus, it took the group just over 2 years, 3 months, and 15 hours to reach 1.6 billion views on YouTube.
Dynamite has now become the K-pop group's music video to reach 1.6 billion views fastest ever, breaking the record of 2 years, 11 months, 19 days, and 13 hours previously held by Blackpink with DDU-DU DDU-DU.
With the aim of appeasing listeners during the Covid-19 pandemic, Dynamite talks about joy and appreciation for the little things that make life valuable. Upon its release, Dynamite also received generally positive reviews from music critics, with praise for its catchy nature and widespread retro sound.
It earned BTS their first career Grammy nomination, for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, making them the first Korean pop artist to be nominated for a Grammy Award.
Dynamite was a commercial success, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming BTS' first number-one single in the United States, while also making the group the first Korean artist to top the Billboard Hot 100. Dynamite topped the Billboard Hot 100 for a total of 3 weeks.
Dynamite is one of the few songs that BTS members did not write or produce, but was produced and written by David Stewart with Jessica Agombar. Originally an independent single, Dynamite was later included on BTS's 5th Korean album titled BE released on November 20, 2020.
