The lack of restraint in her statements by actress Rachel Zegler - the star of Snow White - is said to have caused conflict with her co-star Gal Gadot and caused the audience to turn away from the Disney film.
According to Variety, Rachel Zegler called Gal Gadot a "professional beauty queen" after the two presented an award at the Oscars on March 2. The source said the comment was considered disrespectful to her colleague - who plays the queen in the film. Gal Gadot was crowned Miss Israel 2004 and competed in Miss Universe - a contest she said she reluctantly entered - before starting her acting career.
Previously, Rachel, 23, and Gal, 39, were said to have clashed over their views on the conflict in Gaza. In August 2024, Rachel wrote "Free Palestine" on X when the first trailer for Snow White was released. Meanwhile, Gal Gadot is Israeli.
Snow White producer Marc Platt flew to New York to talk to Rachel Zegler about her pro-Palestinian post, but she refused to delete it, a source said. The son of the producer of 'Snow White' called actress Rachel Zegler an egomaniac who has damaged the film and her colleagues with her controversial statements.
Actor Jonah Platt, son of Disney producer Marc Platt, hit back at an Instagram comment that said his father was "scary" for flying from Los Angeles to New York to counsel Rachel Zegler about her political post on X. "Yes, my dad, the producer of a major Disney production with a budget of hundreds of millions of dollars, had to leave his family and fly to warn a 20-year-old employee about bringing personal politics into the middle of promoting a movie," Jonah wrote.
The 38-year-old actor said that Rachel Zegler signed a multi-million dollar contract to star and promote Snow White, so she needed to take responsibility. "This is called adult responsibility. Her actions clearly hurt box office revenue. Freedom of speech does not mean you can say whatever you want without worrying about the consequences," he explained.
Jonah accused the 23-year-old star of damaging the cast and crew of the film with his immature actions, endangering the income of thousands of workers who depended on the film's success. "Narcissism is not something that should be indulged or encouraged," Jonah concluded.
The source said Disney had to pay extra security costs to protect Gal Gadot after she received death threats on social media. "Zegler had no idea what the consequences of his actions would be for the film, Gal Gadot, or anyone else," the source said.
Before the film's release, Disney decided to let Zegler and Gadot do separate promotional activities. This decision, according to Variety, "raised suspicions of discord" between the two stars. At the film's premiere in Los Angeles on March 15, the two female leads were virtually separated. During the movie, Zegler sat two rows away from Gadot and the Wonder Woman actress's family. In the following days, each promoted the film in separate places.
After the film's premiere, Rachel Zegler shared an Instagram post with several behind-the-scenes photos, but none of them featured Gadot as the Evil Queen. Zegler called the film "a life-changing experience" and said she "became a real adult in the process" of making it.
Zegler also sparked controversy when she criticized Disney's original animated film Snow White before the remake was released. She called the Prince a "stalker" and promised that her film would be "more modern" than the "old-fashioned" animated classic. The Latina actress also criticized supporters of President Donald Trump after the 2024 election, leading some Disney fans to boycott her new film.
Variety writes that Disney âhad had enoughâ of Zegler after the Trump post. Producer Marc Platt, 67, reportedly met with Zegler again and Disney hired a social media expert to review the young actressâ posts. Representatives for Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, and Disney did not respond to requests for comment.
The two female leads of "Snow White" openly hate each other, but a Vietnamese singer shines in dubbing. Đình Như16:06:06 19/03/2025Immediately after its release, Disney's remake of Snow White received extremely positive feedback. Hollywood called it a huge success for the Mouse House.
