Recently, there have been many cases of artists with unethical behavior, inappropriate statements, causing controversy on social networks. However, these names are still allowed to return to the entertainment industry, causing many audiences to be indignant.
The most controversial case recently was that of Negav, a young rapper who was criticized for his comments about dropping out of school and a series of vulgar and inappropriate posts and comments on social media. Although Negav apologized four times, the audience still found it difficult to accept.
The incident made Negav pay the price: Some brands canceled advertising contracts, he was pulled out of the Anh trai say hi concert, from a beloved face to a name boycotted by public opinion.
However, from Negav's case, many netizens cannot help but feel indignant at the cases of Vietnamese artists who are also involved in scandals but still "free" on air.
For example, in the concert Anh trai say hi that took place on October 19, Myra Tran was a guest singer and was still allowed to perform, even though the producer had cut her off the airwaves. A few months ago, Myra Tran was harshly criticized because social media spread a clip of the female singer performing at an event in the US 4-5 years ago. This clip contained some inappropriate and controversial images, causing Myra Tran to be boycotted.
The concert invited Myra Tran to sing, which made the audience angry. However, the singer's presence was kept secret until the last minute, despite the audience's objections.
Another case that caused outrage was B Ray, who was a coach at Rap Viet. The rapper still sat in the ho.t seat of the famous show despite being involve.d i.n a scanda.l over his sensitive statements and being severely warned by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports.
Before appearing on Rap Viet, B Ray was called for a boycott by the audience because of many sensitive posts on his personal page. However, the producer ignored public opinion and let B Ray sit in the ho.t seat of Rap Viet.
In August, Miss Phuong Le was administratively fined by the Department of Information and Communications of Ho Chi Minh City for altering the lyrics of the National Anthem (Tien Quan Ca). Similarly, beauty queen and singer Nam Em was also fined 37.5 million VND after her arrogan.t statements and negative livestreams in March.
The continuous scandals in the entertainment industry have made many people believe that warnings and administrative penalties are not enough of a deterrent, instead, celebrities with deviant behavior should be banned from broadcasting and performing.
Some opinions say that the indulgence and leniency of fan groups is also one of the reasons why Vietnamese artists do not have a correct awareness of maintaining their image and standard lifestyle.
A typical example is the case of rapper Negav. Although the singer has many uncivilized behaviors and statements, his fan group still thinks this is just a small argument and is ready to forgive. At the Anh trai say hi concert on October 19, Negav was absent due to noisy behavior, but many audiences still carried signs to cheer, chanted the male singer's name, and affirmed that they would always welcome him back in the near future.
In fact, in countries with developed entertainment industries such as Korea and China, restricting the activities of artists involved in scandals has been strictly implemented for many years.
In China, the ban was issued in 2020, applying to the entire film industry. Once administratively or criminally punished, artists will no longer have the opportunity to appear in any television programs, entertainment events, advertisements or media activities.
Fans are even ready to boycott artists as soon as they discover their idols have deviant lifestyles and violate ethics.
In South Korea, artists involved in scandals are also banned from broadcasting. SCMP commented that South Korea is a society that values discipline to develop a powerful cultural industry. That is also the factor that makes the trend of cancellation and boycott in South Korea increasingly fierce, even fierce.
