Angelina Jolie's brother suggests her sister how to teach her children, reveals the truth of the kiss at Oscar

James Haven has made comments about his relationship with the Oscar-winning actress in a new interview this week. In addition, he also suggested how to take care of his sister's children after his years-long divorce from Brad Pitt.

James admitted that he considered it his duty to "protect" his sister's 6 children amid the tumultuous divorce and negative publicity.

"That's where it all started, it started with protecting Angelina and then her kids, my nieces and nephews," James said via Too Fab, adding that he and his sister have started a new phase in their relationship after she split from her husband.

James continued: "It's crazy to think that, but yes, I think it's natural to feel protected and I just want to be there."

He attributes that feeling to a lesson he learned from his late mother Marcheline Bertrand.

"It's a quality that I got from my mom, even though cell phones weren't as ubiquitous as they are now and she always said, 'You're the focal point. So I arrange my life so that I can be present in any situation."

Although James only played small roles in film and television throughout the years, it was his relationship with his sister that helped him gain more popularity in public.

He often accompanied her throughout the season and also at the 1999 Academy Awards when Angelina Jolie was awarded the Golden Statuette for Best Supporting Actress for Girl, Interrupted.

But the two have been beset by rumors stemming from their overly close relationship and public affection, including their habit of kissing lips on the red carpet.

Angelina and James caused controversy in 2000, when they kissed on the lips shortly after she won an Oscar. On accepting the award, Jolie confessed: "I am shocked and I love my brother very much. He hugged me and said he loved me, and I knew he was happy for me. And thanks for that."

James later said the event had been "misinterpreted" amid excessive press coverage.

Angelina also tried to brush off criticism of their public performance, calling the kisses just one example of "brotherhood."

The two later said that they were stressed at the time because their mother was in the hospital around the time of the season, not to mention that they faced provocations.

Their mother, Bertrand, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1999, and despite being hospitalized for the first time, she lived for several more years with the disease. The actress died in 2007 at the age of 56.

James seems happy to talk about his relationship with his sister, though he mostly speaks in vague terms. However, James said that the two hope to collaborate on certain projects in the future, though it's unclear if it's a film or any other.

James explained: "We have common concerns, especially if it's focused on how to help children or things like that. And I know there's going to be a lot in the future that we'll probably do together, something we've never done publicly."

James had a steady stream of small film and television roles beginning in the late 1990s, though many of those roles were in films starring his sister or Angelina's second husband Billy Bob Thornton, to whom she was married from 2000 to 2003.

James has barely made public appearances in recent years and his last on-screen role was in Easy Silence, a short film from 2013.

Angelina, meanwhile, went on to have a varied career as an actress and occasionally director, while also working as a human rights activist and Special Envoy to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

However, she recently expressed her dissatisfaction with the film industry and shared her desire to leave Los Angeles in an interview with WSJ magazine. At the time, Angelina said, "In all parts of the world, Hollywood is not a healthy place."

Both James and Angelina Jolie had rocky relationships with their father, actor Jon Voight.
