The details of the case are still of great interest to the public.
The battle between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard in court became increasingly dramatic, when the actor accused his ex-wife of intentionally putting feces on the bed. As for Amber Heard, she denied putting poop on the bed she once shared with Johnny Depp near the end of their relationship, calling the scenario "disgusting".
While testifying in a Virginia state court (USA) on May 16, the 36-year-old actress was asked about this case when Johnny Depp said that he was once shown a photo of "faeces on the bed" after Heard left home with friends to the Coachella, California music festival in April 2016.
The actress also defended herself against allegations that she lied when she claimed she was abused by ex-husband Johnny Depp. Heard remained calm when Depp's lawyer Camille Vasquez accused her of lying and said she was the real abuser.
Vasquez played a tape recording of the couple's argument and read aloud the love letters Heard had written to Depp after the alleged assault. "You weren't scared of him at all, were you?" Vasquez asked Amber Heard. "This is a man who tried to kill me. Of course it's scary. He's also my husband," Heard replied.
Heard is defending himself from Depp's $50 million defamation lawsuit. Depp's team alleges that Heard destroyed his career with false accusations of physical and sexual assault. Depp gave his own account of their relationship over the course of four days at the end of April.
The outcome of the trial will largely depend on which of the two jurors trusts more. Heard's side presented therapy notes, photos of Heard's bruised face and videos of Depp screaming and smashing things, as well as trying to corroborate her testimony about her trauma.
In the incident, most disturbingly, Heard testified that Depp sexually assaulted her with a bottle during an altercation in Australia in March 2015. Depp denied it and accused Heard of throwing a bottle at him during the argument, cutting off the tip of his finger.
Vasquez played an audio recording of the couple's conversation after the fight, in which Depp said he tried to escape the argument by locking himself in the bathroom, but Heard continued "to come to take me."
"Johnny is not a historian to be able to remember well what happened at that time," Heard said, referring to Johnny Depp's drug and alcohol abuse, which causes memory loss. Heard also said that Depp likely cut his own fingertip when he smashed a wall phone.
On the last day Amber Heard testified, Vasquez showed the jurors a knife Heard gave Depp as a gift for their relationship. She asked Heard, why would she make such a gift for a man whom she alluded to was always drunk and violent.
"I'm not worried he'll stab me with that knife," she said. Heard was paid $7 million in their divorce, part of which she donated to charity. Heard's attorney Elaine Bredehoft noted that Depp made $65 million in 2015 and Heard would be entitled to half of that, or $32.5 million.
"I don't want it," Heard said. "I realize that's what I'm entitled to, but I don't need it." The trial is expected to end on May 27, after which it will move to the deliberation of the trial panel.
In addition, Depp's lawyers showed photos of Heard making a public appearance on The James Corden Show red carpet shortly after she said Depp hit her. Photographs were shown to juries showing no injuries.
Heard said the punch made her think her nose was misaligned but not severe enough to be visible or possibly covered with makeup. At the beginning of the interrogation of Heard, a lawyer for Depp asked Heard if she had abused Depp and even harmed him with false accusations. Heard replied: "I never hurt Johnny".
