A few minutes ago, in the design "Ngoc Diep Ky Nam", Ky Duyen appeared with an attractive aura right from the moment she stepped onto the MU 2024 stage. The Vietnamese representative had a confident performance, scoring points with her sharp, beautiful visual, making international fans satisfied.
Immediately, 'Butterfly Parasol' rose to the top of the most searched keywords. In fact, the butterfly parasol is an ancient Vietnamese decoration. This beautiful, elaborate and sophisticated item is currently loved and restored by young people.
Butterfly parasols are handmade products from the talented hands of artisans of the traditional parasol-making village. Parasols are used as toys and wall decorations in noble families, symbolizing longevity.
Butterfly parasols are made with bamboo handles, bamboo frames and do paper. This complex item is currently being enthusiastically recreated by young people. Dang Tuan (a student at Van Hien University, Ho Chi Minh City) happily shows off his newly made parasol. He said he had seen pictures of interesting butterfly-shaped umbrellas. After receiving instructions from Anh Khoa, Tuan decided to try it. It took him all day to complete the product.
"When I made this item, my family and neighbors all came to see and asked what it was. I will bring this butterfly parasol with me every time I wear ao dai, go for a walk, meet friends... I hope the butterfly parasol will be known by many people" - Dang Tuan said.
Phuong Thao (HCMC) also spent nearly 4 hours trying to make a butterfly parasol following the instructions. Thao's parasol was made in a simpler version than the original to save time.
Phuong Thao said the most difficult step was to create the shape of a butterfly. Thao had to cut the bamboo strips very skillfully, then color and draw patterns. She was very excited to be able to make a traditional item herself and immediately took a photo of it.
Phung Nguyen Anh Khoa (born in 1995) is the one who shared how to make this parasol, inspiring many young people to follow the trend. Anh Khoa once saw a photo of an ancient Vietnamese room with two butterfly parasols hangin.g on it, which looked quite unique. He decided to research and restore this traditional butterfly parasol using only a few old documents.
After mastering it, Khoa decided to share the details of this method online so that more people would know about the butterfly umbrella. From there, he recreated a traditional cultural feature of the ancient Vietnamese people. Inside the umbrella, the bamboo strips are intricately woven with five-color thread. This is a rather complicated step when making a butterfly umbrella. The maker must adjust the string evenly and use a steady hand force to keep the string evenly stretched. Each meticulously and elaborately made butterfly umbrella is completely handmade by Anh Khoa, and costs from 3 to 3.5 million VND.
In the proud atmosphere, when bringing the beauty of Vietnamese culture to the world beauty contest, Vietnam's representative, Miss Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen, brought the outfit "Ngoc Diep Ky Nam" by designer Dang Tran Tri, inspired by Nhat Binh shirt and butterfly parasol, causing a "riot" in the domestic and international media because of the smooth "umbrella" like sunsilk.
This national costume not only stands out with its vibrant colors but also cleverly combines modern and traditional elements.
In this competition, Ky Duyen stepped out with confidence and grace. When opening the butterfly umbrella, the confetti effect added to the impression of her outfit. With her outstanding appearance and performance experience, Ky Duyen successfully completed the National Costume competition. The costume honored the ingenuity and meticulousness of ancient artisans, while telling the story of the strong vitality and transformation of Vietnamese culture.
After being announced, the costume also received many mixed opinions from the Vietnamese beauty fan community. Some opinions said that the costume did not match the charisma of Miss Ky Duyen, while a few others thought that the costume was quite confusing and did not clearly represent Vietnamese culture.
However, many people think that the costume is really elaborate and meaningful. Hopefully, with the stage effect, the costume will show its own beauty.
The outfit combines a traditional Nhat Binh shirt with hand-embroidered and beaded details, helping Ky Duyen recreate the image of a royal woman who is elegant, shy but still exudes nobility.
When the parasol opens, it creates the image of "cocoon turning into butterfly" symbolizing the transformation of the entire Vietnamese nation through ups and downs, and that is certainly also the meaning that Ky Duyen wants to express her strong change and rise to move towards a bright future.
The design uses pink, purple and blue as the main colors, creating a blend of modern and traditional femininity. The butterfly motifs are cleverly arranged on the wings, creating a vivid effect, like an art painting moving with each rotation of Ky Duyen.
