Belonging to one of the "four great works", Hong Lau Mong has always been the director's desire to turn it into a movie.
In 1984, the television series Dream of the Red Chamber was made and became one of the most successful Chinese TV series ever. One of the famous actors from the film is the late artist Tran Hieu Huc, who takes on the role of Lam Dai Ngoc.
Born to play Lam Dai Ngoc
Tran Hieu Huc was born in 1965 in a family with a tradition of artistic activities. Her father was a famous opera director and her mother was a dance teacher. Since childhood, Tran Hieu Huc has been directed to the path of art. She studied ballet from a young age and by the age of 12, Tran Hieu Huc had performed many extremely difficult movements that made many people admire.
Not only possessing a beautiful appearance, the ability to perform ballet skillfully, Tran Hieu Huc also likes to write poetry. She wrote the poem "I am a willow" when she was 14 years old. This poem was brought to the casting for Hong Lau Mong and made a strong impression on the director and the film crew.
In 1982, Tran Hieu Huc officially entered the entertainment industry with his first role in Gia Phong. 2 years later, she participated in the casting of the movie Hong Lau Mong and was accepted. This is an opportunity for Tran Hieu Huc because she once confessed that, when she attended the audition, she did not put much emphasis on winning, but just because she wanted to do something she liked.
She submitted a self-portrait photo with the poem "I am a little willow" composed by herself in her application. At that time, Tran Hieu Huc was only 20 years old. A week later, she received a contact from the director who invited her to play the role of Lam Dai Ngoc.
Tran Hieu Huc once said: "I think I was chosen to play the role of Lam Dai Ngoc not because I am beautiful or good at acting, but because of my personality and temperament like this character", To get the female lead role, Tran Hieu Huc must undergo 3 months of training and testing by the director. Director Vuong Phu Lam once asked Tran Hieu Huc, besides the role of Lam Dai Ngoc, do you want to play any other characters. The 20-year-old girl at that time answered fiercely: "I am Lam Dai Ngoc. If I play a different role, the audience will say why Lam Dai Ngoc plays another character."
Indeed, Tran Hieu Huc was born to play the role of Lam Dai Ngoc, who is sentimental and rich in literature. Tran Hieu Huc owns a small, pretty face, delicate lines, sad eyes and eyebrows of willow leaves. Tran Hieu Huc's beauty is like a beautiful woman in ancient paintings. Not only matching her appearance with the character Lam Dai Ngoc, her acting in The Dream of Hong Lau is also considered the most impressive and excellent.
The A-list star "died his shoulder" because of Lam Dai Ngoc
In 1987, The Dream of Hong Lau was officially broadcast and the character Lam Dai Ngoc by Tran Hieu Hu received a lot of love and affection from the audience and the Chinese public. She immediately rose to become an A-list star of the entertainment industry and was sought after. The role of Lam Dai Ngoc played by Tran Hieu Huc is considered a classic for Chinese-language cinema. Later, there were also a few artists who performed this role, but they could not step over the "shadow" of Tran Hieu Huc.
The audience and the media called Hieu Huc with the affectionate name "Lam Sister" to sympathize with the identity of the character Lam Dai Ngoc played by her. Tran Hieu Huc also admitted that she played the role of Lam Dai Ngoc very naturally and easily, feeling the character so real that she didn't act at all. For Tran Hieu Huc herself, this role also had a great impact on her career. Lam Dai Ngoc in Dreaming of the Red Chamber helped her become an A-list star in the entertainment industry, but it also made her later roles appear dull.
In addition to Hong Lau Mong, Tran Hieu Huc also participated in a number of other films such as Gia Xuan Thu (1987) or Gia Phong (1982) and the movie Black Grape (1990). However, these roles of hers are not remembered by the public as much as Lam Dai Ngoc in The Dream of Hong Lau. She once talked about the role of her life: "Lam Dai Ngoc built an insurmountable mountain on my acting path. Although in the eyes of the world, I am an actor, but there is no invited director. I played another role. The name Tran Hieu Huc was obscured by Lam Dai Ngoc. For the next 3 years, I couldn't find any work opportunities, living hard in Beijing."
After a few films, Tran Hieu Huc decided to give up acting, but Lam Dai Ngoc and Hong Lau Mong are still one of the best memories in the late artist's life. In the last TV interview, Tran Hieu Huc once said: "I don't like people calling me by position in the company but want to be called Lam Dai Ngoc. Because of the best impression, the best memory with I am Lam Dai Ngoc in The Dream of the Red Chamber and the period of filming that movie".
Two broken marriages
Like the role of Lam Dai Ngoc, who is sentimental and troubled in love in Hong Lau Mong, Tran Hieu Huc's love story is also not very favorable. When she was young, she fell in love with actor Tat Ngan Quan and once intended to get married. Talking about her first love, she confided: "He is the man I love. He has ideals and talents. I don't want peace and lightness until my head turns gray. I like a life with suffering. , have happiness".
When he fell in love with Tat Ngan Quan, Tran Hieu Huc was an 18-year-old girl. Tat Ngan Quan is 8 years older than Tran Hieu Huc. When the two of them were together, Tran Hieu Huc was participating in the Dream of Hong Lau and was cared for and helped by Tat Ngan Quan. After the movie Hong Lau Mong aired and was successful, Tran Hieu Huc accepted Tat Ngan Quan's marriage proposal. However, when living together, disagreements and conflicts begin to arise between the two. Tran Hieu Huc once admitted that getting married at a young age was a mistake of hers, causing the relationship between the two to become strained. In the end, the couple decided to divorce without having any children together.
Later, when asked about his first marriage, Tran Hieu Huc admitted: "My personality is like Lam Dai Ngoc, tolerant and very stubborn". She believes that her childishness and immaturity is the cause of the breakup of her first marriage.
In 1991, Tran Hieu Huc met her second husband, young director Hac Dong. At this time, she was a mature woman, mature through many bumps in life and career. Her love for Hao Tong is not as loud and intense as with her first husband. She is looking for a man who is tolerant, loving, accepting of her imperfections to try and cultivate life together. Hac Dong is a man who has all those factors.
Gone forever at the age of 41
The couple Hieu Huc decided to give up cinema, set up a company specializing in media and advertising and achieved much success. In 2005 - 2006, Chen Xiaoxu was also voted as one of the top ten Chinese businesswomen. However, the peaceful life did not last long when Tran Hieu Huc realized that his health was not good. She went to the hospital and found out that she had terminal breast cancer.
Tran Hieu Huc refused to undergo surgery despite the advice of his family. In 2006, Tran Hieu Huc often suffered from chest pain and pain. She understood that her time was not long, so she arranged her life and that of her relatives before entering the temple to take refuge in the Buddha's door.
In 2007, she left the business to her husband to manage, while she ordained at Long Tu pagoda and took the legal name Dieu Chan. The image of Tran Hieu Huc with his hair down was shared on social networks at that time, causing a stir in the public. The once-famous star's face is still intact as in the picture, her eyes are strangely peaceful.
Before leaving home, Tran Hieu Huc divided his property into three parts, one for his family, one for Buddha's work and one for charity. The house and car named Tran Hieu Huc and her husband are divided equally between the two families. The company of the late artist and wife was assigned to her sister, Tran Hieu Duong, and her brother-in-law, Hac Quang.
During the last days of her life at the temple, she daily read sutras and listened to sermons with Buddhists in the hope of finding peace. A few months later, on May 13, 2007, Tran Hieu Huc passed away after months of fighting cancer at the age of 41. It is reported that, after Tran Hieu Huc left home, her husband - Hao Dong also ordained with his wife and returned to the world when she died.
Her passing made the public, fans, and friends mourn. Tran Hieu Huc's first husband sadly shared: "I don't believe, I don't believe information from your media, I just want to hear news from her."
Her funeral took place with the presence of many colleagues, beloved audience and relatives. They put on her coffin a white lily flower, implying that her life was similar to the character Lam Dai Ngoc, who was full of talent but unhappy and short.
It has been 14 years since Tran Hieu Huc left this world, but fans, friends and colleagues have always given her nostalgia. Every year on May 13, the audience and colleagues have a memorial activity for the late artist.
For them, Tran Hieu Huc will forever be "little brother Lam" with willow-leaf eyebrows, a flower-like mouth and a unique melancholy feature in the hearts of the public. Up to now, the audience and movie lovers have not accepted another actor to play the role of Lam Dai Ngoc as successfully performed as Tran Hieu Huc. The eventful and short life of Tran Hieu Huc is also likened to a silver face like the character Lam Dai Ngoc in the film.
In 2020, on the day of Tran Hieu Huc's death, Au Duong Phan Cuong (playing Jia Bao Ngoc in Hong Lau Mong) posted on social networks some pictures of his former colleague. Au Duong Phan Cuong also revealed that Vu Ninh - Tran Hieu Huc's brother-in-law shared with him that the late artist was a romantic but strong woman. In his life, Tran Hieu Huc has done 3 favorite things, which is playing the role of Lam Dai Ngoc, doing business and practicing. "Those are her missions when it comes to life," Vu Ninh said.
