Carolina Shiino can be considered the most scandalous Miss Japan. After only a few days of being crowned, the new Miss Japan Carolina Shiino was in danger of being stripped of her crown because she was accused of being a third person, namely being with a married doctor.

Japanese media reported that Carolina Shiino, the new Miss Japan 2024, is on suspicion of having an affair with a doctor who has a wife and children. This doctor, who used to work with an entertainment company, and the age difference between him and Carolina Shiino is up to 19 years.

Currently, the new Miss has not responded to the rumors but she is facing a wave of criticism from the audience for allegedly staining the image of a woman and not deserving to wear the crown. An entertainment industry expert said Carolina Shiino could be stripped of her crown if the scandal is true.

Carolina Shiino is one of the most scandal-plagued Miss Japan. After being crowned Miss Japan 2024 , she was criticized for not wearing Japanese beauty despite being a citizen of Japan.

"Her beauty does not follow the beauty standards typical of the country. Carolina Shiino's victory will make the image of the West 'encroach' on the beauty of Japanese people," an opinion that many agreed.

In response to the mixed reactions, Carolina Shiino shared, "I faced barriers that did not accept me as Japanese. So I am very grateful to be recognized as Japanese at this competition."

Carolina Shiino is the first naturalized Japanese citizen to win the Miss Japan contest. Her success inadvertently sparked a debate about what it meant to find Miss Japan. While some argued that Carolina's victory was a sign of a "change of times", many argued that she did not look like what a "Miss Japan" should be.

A comment posted on X (Twitter) pointed out Carolina Shiino is not even half-Japanese but 100% purebred Ukrainian. According to them, the girl is very beautiful but absolutely does not make anyone recognize it as Miss Japan. This person wrote: "If she is half Japanese then there is definitely no problem. But she's 0% Japanese and wasn't even born in Japan." Others said the girl's victory sent the "wrong message" to the audience.

Ai Wada, the organizer of the Miss Japan pageant, said the judges had chosen Shiino as the winner and were confident with her decision. According to her, she can speak and write Japanese, even more "Japanese" than a native Japanese.

26-year-old model Carolina Shiino was born in Ukraine, moved to Japan at age 5 and grew up in Nagoya. Last year, she announced on Instagram that she had received Japanese citizenship, noting that although she "doesn't look Japanese," her mind has "become Japanese."

In theory, Karolina Shiino's victory is completely valid because the Miss Japan Grand Prix requirement is only a contestant with Japanese nationality and is not married. However, many people believe that the European beauty of the new beauty does not represent Japanese women at all as the criteria of the pageant.

Japan is a racially homogeneous country, with 98% of the population being of pure Japanese blood and having a purely Asian appearance. During the period when Japan was colonized, European beauty standards such as 2-eyelids, white skin, high nose were imposed on the people here, overshadowing the value of traditional beauty.
