Artist Tieu Bao Quoc: U60 lives frugally, 20 years "roosters raise children" in a room of 15m2

Overcoming adversity alone, raising his son to grow up, the artist also helps many difficult situations to find joy in life. At the age of 59, artist Tieu Bao Quoc was more comfortable when he saved some money and owned a few small plots of land.

Artist Tieu Bao Quoc (born in 1962) whose real name is Do Phuoc Hau, was born into a family with artistic traditions in Saigon. He made a special impression on the audience through his witty acting and impressive face. In the 90s, he appeared continuously in the shows Indoor Street. Currently, the male artist is still active with roles in plays at the Young World stage. In addition, he also participates in comedy and films regularly.

I was trampled, rejected, tasted bitter enough

In the idyllic cafe, artist Tieu Bao Quoc talks to VietNamNet with a soft voice, different from the busy roles on the stage. Tieu Bao Quoc's life brings laughter to the audience, but he often cries alone in the rain.

Parents have their own family, Tieu Bao Quoc lives with his grandparents. Living without parental love, he had to cling to his grandparents for a place to live, eat, and go to school. Confiding about the profession, the male artist shared: "At first, I didn't like being an artist. I think that because of this profession, my parents broke up, so I didn't have enough parents. Of course, my father left my mother. Marrying other people also comes from the artistry. My mother stayed there to raise her children for a few years and then married another man."

Lacking attention, the male artist did not study well. Therefore, he wants to learn electronic repair, not follow the family business.

But fate made him unlucky, his grandmother followed the troupe. Knowing that the group lacked people in charge of sound and light, she immediately called Tieu Bao Quoc to work.

"When I joined the crew, I realized that there were many good things. Ba Minh Phung adopted me as a child. The singing group lacked actors, I also jumped to work. I worked hard, vocational training, comedy, Cai luong singing, film acting. ... just come as predestined", artist Tieu Bao Quoc shared.

To be known and recognized by the audience and people in the world, Tieu Bao Quoc has to go through many hardships and failures. He said: "I was trampled, rejected, tasted bitter enough. Therefore, when I was known by the audience, I was happy and happy, did not dare to ask for anything more.

I returned to Ho Chi Minh City in 1996, at that time my name was unknown. I just drove a motorbike taxi and did all kinds of jobs. I think, if I have children, I should at least have a small house for my children, a place to take care of my old age. But when I turned 50, I still didn't have a small roof."

Explaining the scene of an incomplete marriage, many years of raising children alone, artist Tieu Bao Quoc shed tears: "I am not promiscuous. I know how to love my wife and children. I never leave my wife, but my public life is in my heart. It's hard for husband and wife to want to travel together when their wife is on vacation.

I also try to make up for the loss of my wife and children. Many times, after performing at 12pm, I still ran home to take my wife and children for a walk. My wife loves and understands and shares with me, but if I don't understand and choose to leave, I have to accept it," he recalled the old story.

He confided: "The fate of the rooster raising children is more sad than happy. During the hard times, when I asked where my mother was, I could only find a way to go out to cry. I chose when it was raining to cry. It was raining, I was alone. I was driving on the street, sobbing and no one knew. Sometimes, I shouted loudly to relieve my worries."

At the age of 59, he no longer wanted to cry, the hardships gradually lessened with the years his children grew up.

Buy land to prepare "to the garden"

Currently, the difficult years of the male artist have gradually ended, the future prospects are brighter and more open. His son has grown up, knows how to work, knows how to love his father.

Tieu Bao Quoc confided: "I've always been thrifty to live. I live in the profession and see many people who used to be stars get very old. Artists don't have pensions, so I have to learn from experience. Prepare carefully for the garden work."

Referring to "back to the garden", the male artist is not afraid to share : "People laugh, say I'm stingy, I don't care about people. Who looks around, who judges regardless, but when suffering, who helps me? , only myself take care of myself, take care of my family. Anyone can say anything as long as I don't have to raise my hand to ask for money from others. Live to take care of myself, then have a little extra money to help this person. Other than that, if you can't help with money, you can also help a bunch of vegetables and chickens."

Tieu Bao Quoc admits that he takes care of children better than women. There are nights when going to the concert late at night, the son waits for his father to sleep. He had to carry the child on his shoulder, get out of the house to avoid the heat, and then go around to coax him to sleep. During the months of taking care of children, there was a moment when he was close to death. Once, when he came home from a performance, he was tired, turned on the air conditioner to put his children to sleep, he was hit by the wind. He said: "At that time, my limbs were stiff. I was afraid that if I died, who would take care of the baby in my stead. So I kept chanting Buddha's name, after a while I could move my tongue. I bit my tongue to wake up and then dragged myself away. drink wind oil. Now, at my sleeping place, there are always bottles of wind oil, garlic, and ginger soaked in wine."

The artist's son said that although he loved and wished to compensate for the mother's affection, Tieu Bao Quoc was very strict. Every month, the artist gives me more than a million dong for personal expenses and teaches me how to appreciate money. Every morning, he still gets up early to drive his 17-year-old son to school before going to the show. The son can help his father with all personal activities, from cooking rice to washing clothes, but he still does the laundry by himself without bothering him. "She can take care of herself, I'm so happy, I don't want to bother her anymore," the artist said.

Tieu Bao Quoc added: "When I was 50 years old, I still didn't have a small house. However, now, I have a house, land, savings... If you save money, you will have it. but then there will be".

Although he is approximately 60 years old, Tieu Bao Quoc still does not mind the rain and sunshine to perform and film with old motorbikes. He confided: "Even though I have enough money to buy a car, I don't buy it. I don't want to spend an extra amount of money to take care of the car. That money, I can accumulate for posterity, when I am still sick. Besides, when filming and performing, it's tiring, driving by yourself is very dangerous, and even getting stuck in traffic until late."
