Mariah Carey, 55, held hands with musician Anderson .Paak, 39, during a coffee date in West Hollywood on Sunday night. The two stars looked radiant and in love as they left Birds Street Cafe on March 23.

Mariah kept her hair curly like in her younger days, and looked glamorous in a sparkly black jacket, miniskirt and high boots. Meanwhile, Anderson .Paak kept it casual in a plaid shirt and jeans.

Mariah Carey and the talented American singer-songwriter have been rumored to be dating because they often appear together. At the iHeartRadio Awards in Los Angeles last week, Anderson .Paak accompanied Mariah and her twin children. He even walked her up the steps to receive the Icon awar.d.

They were first spotted together during their 2024 Christmas vacation in Aspen, Colorado. Mariah and Anderson were spotted holding hands as they left a restaurant in town. At the time, some sources said the two were just close friends because they had collaborated on a recording last year.

Mariah Carey has been single for over a year after splitting from dancer Bryan Tanaka in late 2023. She and the choreographer, 14 years her junior, were together for seven years. The Without You singer has previously been through two failed marriages, to music producer Tommy Mottola and MC Nick Cannon. Mariah also called off her engagement to casino millionaire James Packer in 2016. She has 13-year-old twins with Nick Cannon.

Mariah's current rumored boyfriend, Anderson .Paak (real name Brandon Paak Anderson), born in 1986, is an American singer, rapper, songwriter and producer. He rose to fame with the critically acclaimed album Malibu (2016). He then continued his success with the albums Oxnard (2018) and Ventura (2019). In 2021, Anderson and Bruno Mars formed the group Silk Sonic, releasing the album An Evening with Silk Sonic, which caused a huge stir. Their song Leave the Door Open reached number one on the Billboard Ho.t 100 and received four awards at the Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year.

Mariah has also been embroiled in a lawsuit over her hit song All I Want for Christmas Is You. On March 19, Judge Monica Almadani ruled in a Los Angeles court that the lawsuit accusing Mariah Carey of copying Andy Stone's 1989 country song of the same name did not have enough evidence to prove that Carey had violated copyright.

The lawsuit was originally filed in November 2023 by Stone and co-writer Troy Powers, accusing Carey of "copyright infringement and unjust enrichment" from her hit. According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Carey's version of "All I Want for Christmas is You" allegedly mimics the "compositional structure" of the original song.

"Defendants knew or should have known that All I Want for Christmas Is You could not be used in their musical works without a license or attribution, as is customary in the music industry," the court documents say. As such, Stone and Powers are seeking $20 million in damages and a jury trial.

However, according to documents from the March 19 ruling, "there is no evidence to support the plaintiffs' case that Carey's 1994 song copied from a song by Stone (who performs under the stage name Vince Vance)." The documents also acknowledge that the phrase "all I want for Christmas is you" did not originate with Stone.

In analyzing the lyrics of the two songs, Dr. Lawrence Ferrara, music analyst and Professor of Music at New York University, concluded that the lyrical similarities between the two songs were "discrete, used with different phrases, arranged differently, and within the common range".

He also stressed that the Vance and Carey versions "are very different songs, the only common elements being the use of popular lyrical ideas and Christmas music clichés that predated Stone's release of the song". The two songs were determined to be significantly different in melody, harmony, rhythm and lyrics, and therefore did not infringe copyright.
