Hui is known as a promising young singer and songwriter of Kim Chi. Debuting as the leader of the boy band Pentagon, Hui has proven his talent so far.
Hui has not only been successful in group productions, but has also been behind other artists' hits.
His real name is Lee Hoe-taek, born in 1993 in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, this place is also the hometown of many famous K-pop stars such as RM, D.O., Xiumin, Chen, SooYoung or actor Lee Kwang so. Hoe-taek found himself with a name that was quite difficult to pronounce, so he decided to take the stage name Hui when he entered the artistic path. Explaining the new name, Hui said that during his time in China, he noticed that the audience pronounced Hoe in his name Hui.
Hui when he entered the entertainment industry was JYP Entertainment after winning the Best Male Vocalist category at JYP's Seventh Audition Finals in 2010.
After three years of training at JYP and preparing to debut in China, Hui was unable to continue participating in the Chinese Music Idol program when ranked at No. 60. Hui also left JYP and participated in an extended audition show, where he was the only one chosen by all three entertainment companies, Cube, Sonic Music, and Nega Network.
Hui's new berth of choice is none other than Cube Entertainment and continued to train there for three years before debuting as the head of the Pentagon in 2016.
With his long-term training experience and revealing many different talents, Cube Entertainment chose Hui to be the leader of his next boy band, Pentagon. Not only is he the big brother of the group, a solid spiritual fulcrum for the rest of the members, but Hui also makes a strong impression when possessing the relatively complete skills of an idol.
Pentagon's debut was marked by the group's debut mini-album and was also the first time Hui officially debuted to the entertainment world after nearly seven years as a trainee. Immediately, he received a lot of attention when he contributed to composing two of the seven songs in the PENTAGON mini-album, Organic Song and You Are, co-written with Hui and members E'Dawn and Wooseok.
The presence of Hui, E'Dawn and Wooseok in the production process made the two guys in particular and Pentagon in general curious the audience, they wondered how talented these factors were to gain Cube's absolute trust and take such a reckless step. It didn't take too long to get an answer, the quality of the songs and the achievements that PENTAGON achieved are the clearest proof of Cube's right decision.
Ceremony earned Pentagon its first Billboard gold chart entry at number fourteen on the World Albums Chart, and the mini-album also peaked at number six on Gaon's Albums Chart and sold over 23,000 copies.
The group's fourth mini-album released in September 2017 titled Demo_01 marked a new step forward for Pentagon as all the songs were written by the group member himself, Hui and his teammates wrote two of the five songs, the title track Like This and When I Was in Love.
The title track for the sixth mini-album Positive is called Shine, this is the song that brought the hit that Pentagon needed the most and an important contributor to Shine's success is none other than the talented leader Hui. However, the road to the glory of Shine and the Pentagon was not easy. The song started at number 500 on Melon's Daily Chart, but thanks to the love and support of artists such as Wanna One, TWICE, Mimi (Oh My Girl) or BM (KARD), Shine had a spectacular comeback.
With nine mini-albums and four years in the running, Pentagon finally responded to the fans' wait with its first studio album called Universe: The Black Hall. Although Hui only composed three of the album's eleven songs, Dr. Bebe, Die For You, and The Black Hall, they all made a certain impression on the public.
Not only has a lot of dedication to the Pentagon, but Hui has also proven himself to be a talented factor in the Korean entertainment world when he shows excellence in almost all aspects of a music idol. Hui's most outstanding feature is none other than his ability to compose, in addition to being behind many of the group's hits, he also composes music for other groups and artists. In 2017, Hui co-wrote with music producer Flow Blow to create two hit songs, Never in Produce 101 season 2 and Wanna One's debut single called Energetic.
In addition to composing, Hui also creates new versions of other artists' famous songs, adding them to new colors with a very unique style, such as BLACKPINK's Kill This Love remixed in R&B style in The Call 2, Itzy's Dalla Dalla re-performed under the Rock version at Studio Music Hall, or Block B's Very Good due to the The Pentagon is represented in Road to Kingdom.
Choreography is also a commendable point of Hui, although he is not as outstanding as two singing and composing skills, but his dance moves are considered both flexible and powerful, Hui also once shared that he is excited about free dancing rather than dancing according to choreography. His catchy compositions and talented vocals help Hui perform well as both a music producer and a performer, so it is not difficult to be sure that his future is still very open and there are many opportunities for development.
