Charmed with volunteer work since the age of 17, Hoang Hoa Trung has so far "bagged" a series of meaningful humanitarian projects bearing his name, becoming a typical example for many young people across Vietnam.
Hoang Hoa Trung, born in 1990, is known as the leader of Faith volunteer group (Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi city), he is a shining example of many young people, famous for his nicknames "Trung raises you", "Trung dong ruin"
With a special talent for observing and turning "waste" into money, since 2003, Trung along with friends in the volunteer group regularly go to ceramic factories in Bat Trang (Gia Lam, Hanoi) to ask for defective ceramic products to sell in book fairs, raising funds to help poor children, building highland schools.
After more than a year of persistently picking up each ceramic bowl, flower pot in Bat Trang, selling motorbike insurance, selling T-shirts at fairs ..., Hoang Hoa Trung implemented the "Mountain and Forest Light Project" with the mission of caring and implementing projects aimed at highland children - the most vulnerable and need to receive the attention of the community. The volunteer group Trust has mobilized nearly 400 million VND, including the help of donors to join hands in implementing the "Mountain and Forest Light Project" with the goal of clearing 20 bamboo painting schools.
In 2014, Trung and other young people implemented the Raising Children project. By connecting donors to directly adopt lunch for highland students, at the price of 8,500 VND/child/meal. Up to now, Hoang Hoa Trung has connected 12,000 donors and donors willing to support the project implementation. Donors have full information about the students they adopt. Not only that, they also know the addresses and phone numbers of teachers, village heads - villages ... to regularly meet, exchange and remove difficulties. Also thanks to the Feeding Children project, tens of thousands of meals have been implemented, helping to significantly reduce the dropout rate.
Next is the project "Brave Tarpaulin" with the activity of applying for old tarpaulins, used backdrop banners brought to the highlands, completely free of charge, to shield the school sites that are still being erected from paintings and cork walls. Operating since February 2018, the project has sent nearly 2000m2 of tarpaulin to cover 10 school sites to avoid sunshine, rain, and leakage. The durability of the tarpaulin is 2-3 times higher and saves more than 100,000,000 VND per year for the budget of the local education department.
Just like that, a series of meaningful projects for highland children were born. Over the years, Trung and other young people, with faith and love, have continued to write a fairy tale about a group of volunteers who can build schools. As of July 2020, Hoang Hoa Trung and his team have successfully built 24 buildings, 22 schools, 1 toilet, 1 6-room boarding house, 1 happy house.
In 2020, Hoang Hoa Trung was honored by Forbes magazine as one of 30 typical faces under 30 years old nationwide, with many achievements such as "Typical Young Vietnamese Face Award" and received the Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister.
For Trung, the story he wants to aim for is more than just inspiring. Trung considers himself an action school, always looking for ways to attract the whole community to participate, eliminating the idea that you have to be rich to volunteer.
Of the 18 provinces where Trung's team implemented the Nurture Children project, 10 were actively run by local volunteers. The middle disseminated, guided his model so that they grasped, then local forces managed themselves.
In the first 4-5 years, the Feed Children project has achieved 100 million money to feed rice for children, with about 88 children being raised. That was not a small number for a fledgling project from a young man in his 20s like Huang Hoa Trung at that time. But the limitations of age, experience, and relationships make this project only good, not really maximized its effectiveness. There was even a time when the children were fed, the organization itself owed money to suppliers, and Trung and his teammates spent an entire summer raising funds to make up for it.
In 2022, the Feeding Children project also goes beyond Vietnam's borders, feeding not only 60,000 children in the country, but also more than 350 Vietnamese children in Cambodia and 480 Kenyan children in Kenya. Trung simply calculated that if each person had 3 fewer cups of milk tea a month, or 3 cups of coffee a month, each child would have an extra month of fullness.
Many people see Huang Hoa Trung and Nu Em appear a lot on television and newspapers, but for Trung, that is not enough to create strength and trust from the community. "No matter how big we get, nobody cares if we don't do well." And in fact, when the story of Raising Children became known to the wider community, hundreds and thousands more children were adopted. "It's a story of choice, when you do the right thing, don't be afraid to share. Because there's no reason why we should give up that opportunity so that children lose the opportunity to eat a meal."
