In 2015, CLC is a girl group that attracted attention because it was the first junior girl group of 4MINUTE. CLC pursues a strong image with invested music and personality. However, after many years of debut, the group did not receive public attention.
CUBE is one of the companies that has trained many well-known music groups in the Kpop entertainment industry. 4MINUTE, BTOB or the latest (G)I-DLE are clear proofs of CUBE's success. However, in this company, there is still a group that is considered talented but not developed in the right direction, leading to the flop of the whole album even though it has been operating for 7 years.
CLC also had a lot of expectations from Cube because this was the period when 4MINUTE started to be sparsely active, HyunA stood out in her solo career, so Cube needed a girl group to succeed 4MINUTE to continue to maintain her position, and CLC was that girl group.
CLC debuted in 2015 with a 5-member lineup including: Seunghee, Yujin, Seungyeon, Sorn, Yeeun. Different from its predecessors, in the early days of its launch, CLC pursued a dynamic and bright concept. Inheriting the heat from his seniors, CLC, although he did not make too much of an impression with Pepe's debut song, still received a lot of significant attention.
With the label of "4MINUTE junior", CLC has both advantages but also disadvantages because they are more or less compared. It can be seen that the 5 CLC members have hidden unique personality traits but have to put on a lovely appearance in the next products such as Eighteen, Question. It seems that CUBE wants CLC to get rid of the senior figure, but it is a wrong choice.
Disadvantage continued to hit CLC when the group caused controversy over their attitude to seniors. In a reality show starring CLC and his senior, BTOB, Changsub expressed his desire for Yeeun to act cute. However, Yeeun expressed her dislike, refusing to push the water bottle towards her senior.
I don't know if it meant anything, but Yeeun's actions were immediately condemned when a rookie showed such an attitude to a senior. CLC immediately lost points, was judged to be rude and disrespectful to seniors.
Not only seniors in the same house, CLC is also "sealed" with contempt for seniors from other companies. In CLC's own show, CLC Beautiful Mission, 3 CLC members, Sorn, Seungyeon, and Yujin, mentioned Co-ed - a 12-member boy and female group that debuted in 2010 with a disrespectful attitude, calling seniors "those guys". Criticism of the attitude continues to cause CLC to struggle.
By 2016, CLC had added two new members, Elkie and Eunbin, to the group. Along with the new lineup, CLC has also made a change in musical style. Different from the clarity and brightness when they first debuted, CLC transformed with strong songs such as Hobgoblin, Black Dress... And these songs initially brought success to CLC.
And thanks to NO, CLC officially got itself the first victory trophy in its career. Tears fell when the group's first achievement after 4 years appeared in front of their eyes. The group set a record that no group wanted to break: the group took the longest to achieve the trophy on the music show.
The next products, Evil or Helicopter, are all impressive hits of CLC. As recognized songs, CLC's popularity was still not very widespread because success came too late and had to face a series of younger groups at that time.
Even (G)I-DLE - CUBE's next-generation girl group after CLC - as soon as it debuted, quickly burst into success, completely overshadowing the image of its predecessors. Considered one of the biggest rookies debuted in 2018 with LATATA, (G)I-DLE excellently maintained its form in the next products with the right musical color and personality.
In early 2021, Elkie member filed a lawsuit against CUBE, demanding termination of the contract and revealing that the company no longer supports the group's growth. Then, in August, Yujin was seen participating in the survival show Girls Planet 999 in search of a chance to "regenerate".
With the moves from the members, CLC no longer has the opportunity to break through in the Kpop market, which is extremely harsh and always exciting with young people going up. The late success did not help CLC's name rise and even CUBE was no longer eager to invest in the group.
By mid-May 2022, Sports Today reported that CLC would officially disband. In Cube Entertainment's announcement, the company thanked the fans who have always loved and supported the group for 7 years.
"CLC U Cube (CLC fan forum) ended its activities on June 6, 2022, after the end of CLC's official activities. In order for fans to appreciate the precious memories they have made with CLC members, the right to view the article will be maintained for a certain time.
Once again, we would like to express our deep gratitude to everyone for their love and support for CLC. At the same time, I hope everyone supports the future that the 7 members are starting on their new path."
Earlier in March 2022, Cube Entertainment announced that CLC's Seung Yeon and Ye Eun would leave the company after the expiration of their contracts. The duo is the 3rd and 4th members to leave the group, after Elkie in February 2021 and Sorn in November 2021.
