Celine Nha Nguyen: The first Vietnamese beauty to conquer Mount Everest, afraid of heights

Celine Nha Nguyen became more famous than ever after becoming the first Vietnamese woman to conquer Mount Everest. Her mountain climbing journey is an endless source of inspiration for millions of people.

Celine Nha Nguyen, real name Nguyen Thi Thanh Nha, born in 1987, has two master's degrees in law from Sorbonne University and Panthenon Assas University, also known as Paris II University (France). The female lawyer and mountain climber currently lives in Ho Chi Minh City and is training to become the first Vietnamese woman to conquer all of the Seven Summits of the world (the 7 highest peaks on the 7 continents of the world).

12 years ago, when she was working in Malaysia, Celine Nha Nguyen often visited her home in Vietnam every weekend. One time, she couldn't buy a plane ticket, so she had to temporarily put this habit on hold.

At that time, a group of close friends invited Celine Nha Nguyen to conquer Mount Kinabalu - the highest mountain in Malaysia. Celine did not expect that this new experience would awaken in her a special interest and passion for mountain climbing.

Since then, Celine Nha Nguyen has been attached to this sport, diligently honing her skills through mountain climbing trips both domestically and internationally. Celine shared that every time she conquered a new mountain, she had to face countless challenges, and there were times when she felt like giving up. But it was her fear of heights that urged the female lawyer to overcome her own limits.

Since falling in love with mountain climbing, Celine Nha Nguyen has been planning to conquer the Seven Summits - the 7 highest mountains in the world located on 7 continents. To date, she has completed 6 out of 7 goals, including the "roof of the world" Everest. Currently, the 8x mountaineer is preparing for the journey to conquer Denali peak in North America.

On her journey to conquer the high peaks, Celine Nha Nguyen faced many difficulties. The most memorable memory was when she was stuck for 7 days at the foot of Vinson Massif, Antarctica.

After an arduous journey with 5 flights from Vietnam to Chile, and strict immigration procedures, Celine and the climbing team stopped at the scientific station, waiting for the helicopter to pick them up. However, the harsh weather in Antarctica prevented the helicopter from arriving. They were stranded in the middle of the vast desert.

The second day passed, and there was still no news of the helicopter. Celine Nha Nguyen was worried because she did not have enough food and equipment. Three days later, the situation did not improve. To dispel her boredom, the female lawyer got to know and chat with other climbers, sharing food together. She also read books, enjoying the wild nature without wifi or phone signal. In Antarctica at that time, 24 hours a day was daytime.

After a week of waiting, the helicopter finally arrived, just in time for the food supplies to run out. Celine Nha Nguyen and everyone else were overwhelmed with joy as if they had survived. If they had stayed any longer, no one knew what would have happened, as snowstorms could have come at any moment.

After the incident at Vinson Massif, Celine Nha Nguyen became more aware of the dangers in Antarctica, but that did not discourage her. The female lawyer aspires to become the first Vietnamese person to reach the center of the continent. Similarly, the near-accident experience when conquering Everest also made her more cautious.

While climbing Everest, Celine Nha Nguyen once fell into a ravine, her heart stopped beatin.g when she was rescued. On the glacier, the 8x climber and her teammates had to move quickly because the ice could melt and fall at any moment.

The moments of facing danger made Celine Nha Nguyen scared, but she always tried to overcome it. "That whole night, I couldn't sleep. I wondered if I should give up. But thinking back, I couldn't accept it after 10 years of preparation," she shared.

On May 16, 2022, Celine Nha Nguyen became the first Vietnamese woman to conquer Mount Everest. This information was confirmed by the manager of Seven Summit Treks Tour Company, Thaneswar Guragai, who emphasized that this is a historic achievement for the Vietnamese mountaineering community.

Celine had originally planned to climb Denali - the final peak on the Seven Summits - in June 2024. However, she decided to take more time to prepare more thoroughly. Therefore, she took a special training course in the US to improve her physical strength and skills for the trip.

Celine Nha Nguyen has been honored to become one of the 19 "Dragon Ladies" of the Women of Our Time 2024 award. This is a prestigious annual award to honor influential, successful and inspirational women in many different fields.

At the invitation of the organizers, Celine Nha Nguyen became a speaker in a special talk sho.w with the theme "Breaking personal boundaries", held in Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of May 10, 2024. Here, she had the opportunity to share valuable experiences about the journey to conquer mountains, both visible and invisible, that she has experienced.

In this emotional talk, Celine did not hesitate to share the difficulties, challenges, as well as memorable moments during the process of pursuing her passion for mountain climbing. The female lawyer also brought the audience valuable lessons about resilience, the spirit of overcoming difficulties, and the ability to face one's own limitations.

Besides climbing, Celine Nha Nguyen is also a golfer with more than 15 years of experience. The female lawyer shared that golf helps to practice discipline and patience, important qualities in both work and life.

Not only that, Celine Nha Nguyen also has a hobby of collecting Hermés bags and has a huge collection of all colors. She is also one of the VIP guests who attended the 2020 party of this expensive brand.
