Overseas singer Randy moved many people to tears when talking about his abandoned childhood because of two bloodlines and the nearly 20-year journey to find his mother.
Referring to the name Randy (1971), audiences who are passionate about Bolero music will immediately think of a Vietnamese-American singer with a tall, "Western" appearance, but extremely fluent in Vietnamese, and possessing a powerful voice. sad and full of emotions.
His artistic journey is marked with songs containing the heart sound of a child longing for motherly love such as It, Mother, My Heart...
It was also his unhappy childhood and 17-year journey to find his mother that overseas male singer Randy took away many tears from the audience. At the same time, it also makes the audience feel happy when witnessing the full life of his family in the US.
Growing up from the Sacred Heart Orphanage (Da Nang), singer Randy got used to the collective life with many other children. When he was 5 years old, his adoptive mother asked him to come back to help herd cows, grow potatoes, and plant rice. Because he has two Vietnamese-American bloodlines with dark skin, since childhood, the male singer has lived in the stigma and contempt of relatives and neighbors. Even he was often bullied and teased.
Not stopping there, 8 years after being adopted, with the program "Blood children returning to America", his adoptive mother sold him to a Chinese family in Hoi An for 3 gold trees. According to Randy, because he wanted to immigrate to the US, his family let him study and have a better life; but they "turned around" after 3 years of waiting without seeing any progress.
At that time, the male singer was forced to quit school to make soy sauce, and at night, he slept temporarily on his father's shabby chair, dreaming of one day being with his biological mother.
Fortunately, in 1990, the program to support hybrids was organized again, singer Randy successfully set foot in the US, opening a whole new life in a foreign land and filled with hope for the future. bright.
When the goal was achieved, the attitude of the Chinese family towards singer Randy was also not very strong. A year later, he took the initiative to move out and live on his own. Thanks to that, he fell in love with music through a contest for Vietnamese people. Meet and lead by veteran artists such as the late musician Thu Ho, musician My Huyen and singer Anh Tuan, Randy is increasingly loved by the audience and made a name for himself with the song "It".
"After 2 years in the US, I started singing. There weren't many shows here, but the CDs were selling very well. While going to the show in Australia, Randy had just arrived at the hotel when someone knocked on the door and handed over 1000 hands. The CD is already 4000 dollars. One month when I record and go on shows, I should earn 15-20 thousand dollars. But I was in a lot of poverty so I spent a lot at that time, if I know how to save, I can Maybe now I'm a real estate giant," - the male singer humorously revealed.
When she was able to take control of her life, singer Randy began her journey to find her mother, even though she had held her feelings for many years. But because he was in the orphanage since childhood and there was no clue about his mother, even in 2010, the male singer knew his real name and date of birth after 39 years of existence in the world. He searched all over Vietnam, tried DNA testing with many mothers who lost their children, but it was useless. Many times holding hope and then receiving overwhelming disappointment, the desire to find a mother in him is no longer as burning as before.
Singer Ranby confided: "Every time on air, Randy shares his birth date so that his mother can see and find him. After many years of searching, Randy thought maybe his mother had gone to the other world. Partly because Randy is nearly 60 years old, my mother is also close to the earth and far from heaven, partly because I had a dream about a leopard, but even so, I still want to find my roots. I know you're dead. Now let's just do our duty."
After all these years of suffering, he poured his emotions into Bolero songs and unexpectedly, it helped him meet his current wife, saving his already grim life.
Sharing with "Knock on the door to visit the house", Thanh Tu - his wife has been in love with him since the age of 12. It was not until more than 20 years later that the two had the opportunity to talk, meet and write a sweet love story in every gesture and word. He also composes music many times to express his love for his wife, making the audience admire unceasingly.
