Vinh Phuc: Outrage over why husband attacked ex-wife on sidewalk, official prosecution

The case of a husband attacking his ex-wife on the sidewalk at the end of July has recently had a new development. The reason he gave to the police made many people extremely angry.

On August 12, the Investigation Police Agency of Phuc Yen City Police, Vinh Phuc Province, announced that the unit had issued a decision to prosecute the case, prosecute the accused and issue a 4-month detention order for Nguyen Van Phuong (born in 1989, residing in Trung Nhi Ward, Phuc Yen City) for the act of "Murder".

Previously, on July 27, social networks shared images of Nguyen Van Phuong holding a sharp object to "impact" his ex-wife in front of the house on Soc Son street, group 7, Trung Trac ward.

After turning himself in to the police, Van Phuong confessed to his crime. Accordingly, in 2012, he and Ms. VTL got married and had 2 sons. Due to conflicts in their marriage, in April 2024, Phuong and his wife "went their separate ways".

On July 26, Phuong went to see his ex-wife to ask for a loan to treat his father's illness, but Ms. L. refused to lend him money. When his ex-wife refused, he was angry and went home. At about 3:40 p.m. on July 27, Phuong rode his motorbike, carrying a sharp, collapsible metal object in his pocket, to meet Ms. L., who was selling lottery tickets in front of a pharmacy on Soc Son Street, to talk.

Upon arriving, Phuong parked his motorbike on the sidewalk and walked to his ex-wife's lottery ticket counter. There, the two talked for about 10 minutes before an argument broke out. He suggested that Ms. L. go home to talk, but she refused. After that, the two continued to struggle. While his ex-wife ran away, Phuong took out a sharp object from his pocket and chased after her, then "impacted" her chest, abdomen, shoulder, and left arm.

Only when he saw many people around shouting and running to stop him, Phuong stopped and drove his motorbike, carrying the murder weapon home. Ms. L. was taken to the Phuc Yen Regional General Hospital by the people and then transferred to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, Hanoi.

The entire incident was recorded by a security camera and spread on social media, causing public outrage. As a result, Ms. L. was injured in 10 places on her chest, abdomen, shoulder, back and left arm, with a total body injury rate of 13%.

Last week in Lao Cai, a similar case between a husband and wife occurred, causing public outrage. Accordingly, at around 3:30 p.m. on August 5, Bui Manh Cuong (born in 1994) was butchering a chicken in the backyard to prepare dinner to invite his brother's family over for dinner when he had a conflict with his wife, Nguyen Thi H (born in 1997), who also lives in Na Kim village, Ta Chai commune, Bac Ha district.

Thinking that Ms. H. was talking too much, Cuong asked her to "talk less" but his wife did not listen and continued talking. Angry, he took the knife used to cut chicken (a gourd type, with a sharp blade) and ran to the kitchen door, then raised it to threaten Ms. H.

At this time, Ms. H. struggled and slapped her husband in the face. In a fit of anger, Cuong swung the knife and "hit" Ms. H.'s hand and body twice in a row, causing her to sit on the ground and scream.

Not stopping there, Cuong continued to go into the kitchen to get another knife from the family shelf on the kitchen counter and then returned to attack Ms. H. again. After committing the crime, he dragged his wife into the bathroom with the intention of calling relatives to take her to the hospital. However, due to the severe injuries, Ms. H. passed away forever.

After the incident, the authorities were present to arrest the suspect for investigation and handling according to the law. As of August 6, according to information from the leaders of Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province police are still investigating and clarifying the case that occurred in Ta Chai commune.
