According to people living around the area, the crater was initially just over 3m wide. People mobilized a fresh concrete truck with more than 50 m3 to pour into the pit to prevent subsidence but failed. After that, the crater continued to expand to about 12m long, more than 5m wide, about 4m deep, many cracks on the road surface showed signs of spreading.

After the incident, Quang Be Commune People's Committee mobilized the police force to blockade the scene, warn people of danger and evacuate about 20 households living around the dangerous area. As of 9pm on April 6, this "death hole" was 5m deep and about 30m wide.

Due to the "death pit" appearing at off-hours, right in front of provincial road 419, curious people gathered in large numbers. Local authorities must set up a blockade, separate traffic from afar and forbid people from coming near to prevent risks.

The crater area is located in front of three one-storey, three-storey and five-storey houses with restaurants, drugstores and car repair shops.
