When drilling to a depth of about 47m, the rig tilted. Seeing the danger, the drill crew ran away, and at the same time called on the owner and neighbors to evacuate. After only a few hours, a "death pit" appeared, "swallowing" the entire rig.

"I heard a lot of noises, ran out and saw two well drillers jumping out of the hole, at the same time the drill, the sesame tree fell down," the witness shared.

According to people living around the area, the crater was initially just over 3m wide. People mobilized a fresh concrete truck with more than 50 m3 to pour into the pit to prevent subsidence but failed. After that, the crater continued to expand to about 12m long, more than 5m wide, about 4m deep, many cracks on the road surface showed signs of spreading.

After the incident, Quang Be Commune People's Committee mobilized the police force to blockade the scene, warn people of danger and evacuate about 20 households living around the dangerous area. As of 9pm on April 6, this "death hole" was 5m deep and about 30m wide.

Due to the "death pit" appearing at off-hours, right in front of provincial road 419, curious people gathered in large numbers. Local authorities must set up a blockade, separate traffic from afar and forbid people from coming near to prevent risks.

The crater area is located in front of three one-storey, three-storey and five-storey houses with restaurants, drugstores and car repair shops. The floor of the pharmacy, electricity poles and many furniture were pulled down. This area is more than 1,500 meters from Day River, about 10km from the collapse in Nam Phuong Tien commune (April 2020). The crater has been filled by the authorities but is still very deep and has appeared many new cracks in the road surface.

Some locals said, "We've lived here for decades and have never seen anything like it." Initial information was fortunate that no one was injured in the pitfall.
