A series of gas stations in big cities suddenly hung signs "out of stock" or only sold according to shocking norms. Notably, despite accepting the loss of shipping fees and discounts of 0 VND, many business owners are still helpless to look at the empty warehouse.
The petrol fever seems to be returning and more profitable than before when a series of gas stations from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City to An Giang all fell into the situation of "no export, no import". The image of the "out of gas" signs or the announcement that they only sell a few tens of thousands of VND for each motorcycle is spreading rapidly on social networks, leading to extreme anxiety of the people. No longer false rumors, the reality at retail outlets is showing a pronounced supply disruption that makes even the most optimistic people sit still.
In the capital Hanoi, many car users have had to turn their heads when visiting familiar gas filling points but only receive shakes of the head from the staff. In some places, there is only diesel, RON 95 gasoline is completely clean in the tank. Representatives of retail businesses said that people's demand suddenly skyrocketed by 30% in the past few days, while the source of new goods from key units remained silent. Public opinion asks why an essential commodity such as petroleum can easily fall into a state of "flying" so quickly in just a few short days?
The deeper we did, the gloomy the business picture of retailers became. Many gas station owners share that they are operating in a state of literally "doing it for passion". With the discount rate reaching the bottom of 0 VND, even having to make up for the loss of transportation costs, these businesses still cannot import goods. This situation lasts so long that gas stations are forced to apply a "risk-sharing" policy, that is, each customer can only buy a small amount to ensure that everyone has gas to go home. This invisibly creates long waiting lines and unnecessary frustration in the community.
Not only stopping in Hanoi, this wave of drip selling has spread to the southern and western provinces. In Lam Dong or An Giang, the control of sales norms for cars and motorcycles has become a temporary regulation of many petrol owners. More significantly, during unscheduled inspections, the authorities have detected cases where the warehouse still has stock but restricts sales without notification. This behavior was immediately severely punished, but it also reflected a bitter reality: a lack of trust and fear of risk pervades the entire supply chain.
Looking at the global picture, the source of this chaos is believed to come from the intense geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East. Although large key enterprises affirm that domestic supply is still sufficient for March, the specter of transport disruptions in key straits is making all forecasts fragile. Rising operating costs, insurance and financial risks are squeezing the pockets of importers, making the flow of fuel to retail gas stations slower and trickle than ever.
Facing this situation, the public is looking forward to more drastic moves from the management agency. Adjusting the price mechanism to harmonize the interests of the parties and improve the national reserve capacity are urgent problems that need to be solved immediately. Without timely response scenarios, the scenario of people having to queue up all night to wait for every liter of gasoline to be poured may no longer be a thing of the past. While waiting for calm, perhaps everyone needs understanding and sharing instead of rushing to hoard, making the situation even more tense.
