At Sing Asia 2025, Amsyar Lee â a contestant from Malaysia â made a strong impression with his emotional voice. However, Phuong My Chiâs teammate Kha Lau unexpectedly refused to recruit him to join him in the semi-finals. Is the reason due to his unstable talent?
Amsyar is known to be the sole representative of Malaysia to participate in the international music reality TV show Sing! Asia â a competition held on a yacht, spanning Okinawa (Japan), Ha Long Bay (Vietnam), Singapore, Klang (Malaysia) to Hong Kong.
He made a deep impression by performing songs in Chinese, typically Bukan Lagi Kita, Japanese - version of Hannah Delisha's "Esok Masih Ada".
In particular, the cover video of "Cinta" (originally by Marsha Milan) made a name for itself when Amsyar performed excellently, making judge Jessie J (and the audience) admire and compare him to Freddie Mercury because of his stage presence and charisma. He was also called "King of Singers" in the first round because of the highest vote rate. However, he could not avoid great pressure, every time he went on stage, he spent a few minutes praying, helping to dispel the tension.
'Unfortunate' fate in Singapore! Asia 2025
Joining Sing! Asia 2025 with the desire to conquer the peak of his career, but after many rounds of competition, in episode 6, when Amsyar and 4 other Singer Kings entered the direct confrontation round with 4 gatekeeper singers to find the first 4 names to enter the semi-finals, Amsyar was the one with the lowest number of votes out of 5 people, so he was forced to compete with 9 other contestants. The 6 winners will reunite with the 4 Singer Kings, fighting together in the semi-finals 1 in Shanghai.
Most recently, when the 10 contestants at Sing! Asia 2025 paired up to compete in pairs, to officially enter the Semi-Final 1, Amsyar Lee chose Kha Lau - a former contestant of The Voice of China - as his partner, but Kha Lau chose Phuong My Chi.
But "Sister Bay" wanted to team up with Vuong Hong Hao, creating a confusing roundabout. In the end, the two folk singers Phuong My Chi - Kha Lau came together, joining forces to fight against 4 other pairs of contestants.
Regarding Amsyar Lee, although he was rejected, he smiled friendly and continued to choose suitable teammates to advance deep into the next round at Sing! Asia 2025.
Although Amsyar Lee (Malaysia), Kha Lau or Phuong My Chi (Vietnam) are not contestants on the same team, they are two prominent faces, representing two different national music cultures.
The sole representative of Vietnam, bringing folk melodies through performances such as Buôn TrÄng, Rock Hạt Gạo, Lý Bắc Bá», and especially the Vietnamese-Chinese version of Bóng phụ hoa in the quarterfinals, won the quarterfinals overwhelmingly and advanced to the semi-finals. She was continuously in the top contestants with high votes and advanced to the final rounds thanks to her strategy and stable performance.
Although they did not compete directly against each other in any round, Amsyar and Phuong My Chi were both in the top 10 contestants entering the semi-finals, and appeared together in the organizers' livestream when preparing for the semi-finals. The two interacted simply as colleagues participating in the show, sharing the stage and the common atmosphere, having the opportunity to exchange and support each other as contestants in the same program.
The Malaysian representative also competed strongly and attracted attention. However, according to the quarter-final results, he was the contestant with the lowest number of votes in the "king of stations" round, so he was sent to the additional quarter-final (quarter-final 2) to continue competing for a place in the semi-finals.
Amsyar's personality clearly shows perseverance and bravery - despite going through a period of being underestimated, he still strived to perfect his vocal technique, constantly learning to become a professional singer.
Amsyar is also an emotional person, which is reflected in his soulful performances. He is gentle and approachable in his communication with the audience and colleagues, always maintaining a positive attitude under pressure.
With an artistic personality that is both sensitive and fierce, Amsyar Lee is not only an impressive singer but also a role model for the young generation of artists who dare to be different and pursue their own path.
