As one of the singers with the top technique in Vietnam, Hong Nhung now makes many audiences admire and respect her will and determination when facing cancer.
Recently, in a program, the diva opened up for the first time in detail about the time when she first accepted that she had the disease.
The singer said that since she was diagnosed with cancer, she has been working non-stop because this helps bring vitality and joy every day. In addition to her flower arranging and cooking habits, Hong Nhung also maintains discipline by learning French and never missing a day of school. This is said to be a way to help her stay optimistic instead of feeling depressed when thinking about her illness.
Notably, when recalling the decision to record a video and announce that she had the disease, Hong Nhung admitted that it was a "brutal decision".
After the surgery, she asked someone to do her makeup and hair, then set up the camera to record a video sharing about her health and her desire to help many women be aware of cancer screening for timely treatment.
Moments after finishing the video right in the hospital bed, Hong Nhung recounted, she had to move step by step to turn off the phone and collapsed at the end of the hospital bed. After that, the nurse came in and discovered the female singer "lying crookedly".
"I cried because I felt like I had done something so great," the singer confided.
Hong Nhung added that after announcing her diagnosis, she received more than 3,000 messages from many people to encourage her. More specifically, many women, after learning about the Hanoi-born singer's story, decided to get screened for cancer.
This makes the diva believe that her decision to announce her illness was the right one, contributing to spreading positive values to many people in the matter of caring more about their own health.
When she heard the news of her illness on November 1, 2024, she still decided to continue the live show Hong Nhung sings about Hanoi.
"At that time, I also hid from everyone that I was sick so that the concert could take place naturally. After the concert, I collapsed both physically and mentally. The doctor said that with my weak physical condition, they could not operate immediately. I had to go home to recuperate for 2 weeks before I was strong enough for surgery," she said.
When she was sick, the first person she told was the doctor, even when she went for surgery, she hid it from her father.
"Before I decided to publicly announce my illness, I told my parents. Because they are old, if I told them, they would worry 100 times more. My father is also sick. When I went to compete in the show "Beautiful Sister Riding the Wind", I took him to the emergency room so I didn't want him to worry too much.
When I told him I was sick, he sighed and said nothing. When he returned to Vietnam and saw me, he was very sad," the female singer confided.
Since discovering that she had the disease, Hong Nhung has become more conscious of protecting her health and keeping her spirit optimistic. She often appears at art events, and at the same time spends time with her children by traveling together, or finding joy and relaxation through flower arranging, cooking...
During her treatment journey, the singer once confided that she was sometimes scared and weak. In March, she said she felt headaches, muscle aches, nausea, restlessness, difficulty sleeping, and an inability to eat when undergoing radiation therapy. But in the end, Hong Nhung chose to continue moving forward, both treating her illness and spreading positivity to the community.
The singer once confided that her priorities are different now: "I have more time: "When I'm in the hospital, when I'm resting, to reflect on those things, to write them down, to dig deep inside. I'm still in the process of understanding it, making peace with it.
But after all that, the thoughts that I still haven't completely finished, I realized that my top priority is to be happy. Happiness is a big word! I just need to feel satisfied. I just need to be happy!".
"I'm gentle with myself, spend more time with my children, do things I like related to art, I still compose and do programs.
The most important love for a single mother is her children, then her boyfriend. I still have my father, he is old, I will take care of him with the best things," she said.
