The video that went viral on Chinese and international social media recently caused a stir in public opinion, raising questions about the 37-year-old actor's death, although police insisted there were no criminal elements.
Chinese actor Wu Menglung, 37, died on September 11 after falling from a height. Beijing police concluded that there were no criminal elements, but the viral video allegedly showed him being physically impacted, raising public suspicion.
The viral video shows a man being dragged on the floor, believed to be Vu Mong Lung. Many people claim that this is evidence that he was physically impacted or abused before he died. However, netizens and experts were quick to point out the anomalies: the people in the video were dressed up in costumes like the staff in the escape room horror games, while the person being dragged did not show pain or panic, and even clapped their hands as if they were participating in the game.
A post on X (formerly Twitter) in late September attracted more than 1.2 million views, calling for "justice for Vu Mong Lung". One account wrote: "People say they want to see a video proving that Vu Mong Lung was physically impacted, but who goes to film their crimes? In fact, this is a horror game, and the people in the video are still clapping, how can it be called a physical impact?"
However, the spread of the clip caused a stir in public opinion. Many people still do not believe in the conclusion of the police, suspecting that there is a hidden secret in the actor's death. Some netizens also think that acquaintances or management companies may be involved. On the night of the incident, Vu Mong Lung attended a gathering at a friend's house with more than 10 people, including famous artists such as Pham The Ky and Tong Y Nhan. These two characters have also been noticed even though there is no real evidence.
When the public was still wondering about the video, a document believed to be Vu Mong Lung's autopsy report circulated online, detailing many serious injuries, raising suspicions that he did not die due to the accident. According to the captured image, the document is believed to have been entrusted by the Beijing police station for examination on September 13 and carried out on September 14 at the Beijing Forensic Examination Center.
The report described Vu Mong Lung as "1.81 m tall, in normal physical condition, with light yellow skin, dark red pigmentation on the head, neck, back and lower limbs". Injuries include: pulled scalp, broken or missing lower teeth, broken nose bridge, blood in the ear canal, 3 cm tear in the lower lip, 7.5 cm long tear on the body, multiple rib fractures, internal hemorrhage, liver tear, cardiac arrest. The report also mentions signs of sexual harm.
Some independent forensic experts say these injuries are not consistent with free-fall accidents, but are often the result of a direct physical impact. However, Chinese media emphasized the authenticity of the document has not been verified. Many people even discovered that the sample and wording of the report were almost identical to a 2012 forensic document that had gone viral, raising suspicions that this report was copied or edited.
The spread of unauthenticated videos and documents has caused public confusion and confidence in the forensic system and investigative agencies to be affected. Many people called on the Chinese authorities to soon release an official forensic report, transparent information to put an end to the rumors. Vu Mong Lung's family also wishes to respect his privacy, so that he can rest in peace.
