With over three decades in the arts, the male artist is remembered not only for his soulful voice and distinctive performance style but also for the many ups and downs in his personal life.
From earning "hundreds of gold bars" during his heyday as a singer to becoming a father for the first time in his 50s, his story has attracted a lot of attention.
Meritorious Artist Vu Luan, born in 1972, is one of the prominent figures of traditional Vietnamese opera (cai luong) from the 1990s. During the period when cai luong held a significant place in cultural life, he quickly became a beloved artist thanks to his distinctive voice and emotionally rich acting style. Many plays are associated with his name, such as "Moonlight Vows in the Garden of Wishes," "Cold Night in the Abandoned Temple," "Luong Son Ba - Chuc Anh Dai," and "Half a Lifetime of Fragrance and Powder." These roles helped Vu Luan leave a lasting impression on lovers of traditional theater.
Vu Luan's career has also been recognized with many important awards. In 2007, he won the gold medal at the Tran Huu Trang Award - one of the most prestigious awards in Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera). In 2015, the male artist was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist, marking a long journey of dedication to the traditional stage.
During the peak of cải lương (Vietnamese traditional opera), Vũ Luân's performance fees surprised many. The male artist stated that he could receive approximately two gold bars per performance. With long tours in various provinces, lasting two to three months, the accumulated amount could reach hundreds of gold bars.
He himself once recounted that back then, he had so much money that he had to buy gold to keep safe because he didn't feel secure leaving cash in the hotel. After each performance, he would bring home bags of gold. The money he earned helped the artist buy houses for his siblings and save for his future.
Beyond performing, Vu Luan also demonstrated his passion for Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) by investing heavily in theatrical projects. In 2003, he sold his house and used 200 gold bars to stage a live show at the Hoa Binh Theater. This decision was considered quite risky, but it also showed the artist's commitment to the art.
Despite his successful career, Vu Luan is quite private about his personal life. For many years, he rarely shared details about his romantic relationships. Therefore, when his relationship with businesswoman and former beauty queen Phuong Le was made public, it quickly attracted public attention.
Born in 1979, Phuong Le is well-known in the beauty and business world. She won the title of First Runner-up at the Miss Vietnamese Businesswoman of the World 2016 pageant and was crowned Mrs. World Peace 2017. In addition, the businesswoman is active in many business fields such as dentistry, real estate, hotels, resorts, and office leasing.
Before meeting Vu Luan, Phuong Le had gone through a failed marriage and became a single mother, raising three daughters on her own. According to her, she had been a fan of the male artist for many years. This admiration for the famous Cai Luong singer is believed to be one of the factors that brought the two together.
After going public with their relationship, the couple's love story received much attention from the public. Many noticed that both were middle-aged when they got together. However, it is believed that their compatibility in life and feelings is the factor that keeps them together.
A significant milestone in Vu Luan's life was becoming a father for the first time when he was over 50 years old. The male artist once shared that before marrying Phuong Le, he thought he might never have children. When they decided to commit to each other, he told himself that all he needed was a peaceful life with his wife.
However, everything changed when Phuong Le became pregnant naturally at the age of 46. The unexpected good news deeply moved Vu Luan. He admitted that he was so happy he cried when he learned he was about to become a father.
Throughout his wife's pregnancy, the artist was always by her side, taking care of her and unable to hide his anxiety, as neither of them were young anymore. Each time he took his wife for an ultrasound and saw that the fetus was healthy, he could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
On the day his daughter was born, Vu Luan was practically constantly outside the delivery room, filled with anxiety. The birth went smoothly, and the baby girl was born healthy, weighing 2.9 kg. The couple's daughter's birth name is Luong Binh Thuy Yen, and her English name is Ivanka Luong.
The male artist once shared that holding his daughter in his arms made him feel like he had received a special gift from life. "Our daughter is a loving gift that God sent to my wife and me," he expressed.
According to Vu Luan, Thuy Yen is not just a child, but also brings him a sense of a new beginning. At an age where he has entered a different stage of life, his daughter's arrival gives him more motivation and hope. The male artist confessed that his daughter is his "new source of life."
He also expressed gratitude to his wife for accepting to get pregnant and give birth at an age that was no longer young. According to Vu Luan, becoming a father helped him realize that happiness may come very late, but it is still incredibly sacred.
Many believe that Vu Luan's story is a testament to the extraordinary journey of a Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) artist: having lived through the golden age of the stage, accumulating wealth through art, and only beginning to experience the joy of fatherhood in his 50s.
Currently, although cải lương (Vietnamese traditional opera) is no longer in its heyday, Vũ Luân continues to pursue the stage. He invests in staging new plays with the hope of keeping the flame alive for this traditional art form. At the same time, his family life with his wife and young daughter has become a great source of motivation for the male artist.
After many years dedicated to the stage, Vu Luan seems to be entering a different phase of his life. While audiences previously remembered him as a renowned Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) star whose fees were paid in gold, many now refer to him as a belated but joyful father. For the artist himself, this journey is perhaps not only a life-changing experience but also a story of joys that came late but are enough to warm the heart.
Audio recordings surface of Phuong Le being badmouthed by Vu Luan, possibly involving his male assistant?
Keng13:09:32 15/02/2026After welcoming their daughter into the world, Phuong Le and Vu Luan's married life received much public attention. The image of a warm and happy family they have built is quite clear, earning them admiration from many.
