On the eve of the trial of the inheritance dispute between the mother and wife of the late actor Duc Tien, Ms. Nguyen Binh Phuong affirmed that "many hidden corners" in her husband's life will be exposed in court, attracting special public attention.
The inheritance dispute of the late model and actor Duc Tien is attracting special public attention. According to the schedule, the trial is scheduled to take place on October 28 at the Ho Chi Minh City Peopleâs Court, chaired by Judge Chau Thi Diep â who previously presided over the controversial inheritance case of the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh.
The focus of the lawsuit lies in the legal confrontation between Ms. Nguyen Binh Phuong (wife of the late actor) and Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Anh (biological mother). Both claim to have the legal right to inherit the assets left by Duc Tien.
Before the trial began, Ms. Binh Phuong posted on her personal page that there were "many hidden corners" in her husband's life that would be made public in court. According to her, this trial is not only about assets, but also an opportunity to clarify the question of who is the person who really attached to, cared for and accompanied Duc Tien from childhood until he got married.
In the petition sent to the Peopleâs Court of Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Phuong requested to be recognized as a legal heir based on the will that Duc Tien made and notarized in the US. Specifically, she requested to receive two main assets including: A house in Hiep Binh ward, Thu Duc city (HCMC), a plot of land No. 1841 in Long An province.
Ms. Phuong said that in the will, her husband did not mention his biological mother, but she still agreed to divide 666 million VND from the inheritance to Ms. Anh and their daughter, MH.
The biological mother objected, claiming that the will in the US was not legal in Vietnam. After the court accepted the case in late 2024, Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Anh filed a counterclaim. She claimed that the will made in the US was not legally valid in Vietnam because it did not comply with domestic law.
Not only that, Ms. Anh also affirmed that the house in Ho Chi Minh City is the joint property between her and her son because she contributed, renovated and managed it for many years. From there, she requested to receive 50% of the value of this house.
In the additional counterclaim, the late actorâs mother continued to request the court to consider dividing Duc Tienâs house in the US, arguing that this was also an asset formed during her sonâs lifetime, so she had the right to inherit. However, the Ho Chi Minh City Peopleâs Court clearly determined that because this house is located outside of Vietnam, it is not within the courtâs jurisdiction.
Since the case came to light, public opinion has been buzzing as the two women closest to the late artist are now on opposite sides. Many believe that the case will not only revolve around the issue of property, but also the journey to find the "truth behind" the life of a person who was once loved in the entertainment industry.
The upcoming trial promises to bring many new details, especially when both parties hold documents proving their rights. The outcome of the case will not only decide who will inherit the property, but may also clarify the long-standing disputes about the family relationship between the mother and wife of the late actor Duc Tien â who passed away when his career and life were at their peak.
