The scandal of "monk" Thich Nhuan Dat and a girl named Tym: The Church speaks out

Recently, NTMT – the person believed to be the "main character" in the story between Tym and a Buddhist monk that caused a public uproar – officially spoke out on her personal page. Her lengthy post quickly attracted attention.
In her statement, Ms. NTMT said she had remained silent for a long time. However, due to the information circulating on social media and to prevent other Buddhists from placing their trust in the wrong place, as her family had experienced, she decided to speak out and clarify the situation.
According to her account, for the past four years she has always regarded Venerable Thich Nhuan Dat as a spiritual teacher, a "master" in whom she placed her complete trust. Initially, their relationship was simply that of a pure teacher-student relationship. She stated that she had absolute faith in his teachings on the path of spiritual practice and believed that she was being guided by a true practitioner.
However, towards the end of 2025, the story took a different turn when the teacher allegedly told her about a "fated love" between a spiritual master and a princess. According to Ms. NTMT, the story revolved around the two having gone through more than 40 lifetimes together, vowing to be reborn to plant forests and save sentient beings. Because of her absolute faith in the teacher, she said she believed this story with its spiritual undertones.
Later, according to her, the monk requested to be released from his monastic vows, and the two publicly revealed their romantic relationship around November 2025. However, he continued to wear blue trousers and a brown t-shirt – attire that led many to mistakenly believe he was still a monk. Ms. NTMT admitted that this had affected the image of monks and nuns and caused misunderstandings within the Buddhist community. Therefore, she offered her apologies to the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and all genuine practitioners.
What she described as "completely devastating" was that after the story became public, she and several others discovered that Mr. Nhuận Đạt had allegedly had marital-like relationships with two other nuns, Chơn Giải and Chơn Lý, before the incident. According to her, many people could testify to this information. From that, she and several other Buddhists realized that their religious beliefs, built up over many years, may have been manipulated and exploited.
In the article, Ms. NTMT also revealed that because she had absolute faith in those she considered to be genuine practitioners of Buddhism, she had transferred large sums of money as donations to nun Chơn Giải and her younger brother, Mr. Hồ Văn Vàng. Furthermore, she stated that she had bought land registered under Mr. Nhuận Đạt's name and even made a will leaving all her assets to him during her four years of studying meditation.
According to her, she is not alone in her suffering; many other Buddhists are also experiencing distress as the image of those they have respected for years has crumbled. For her personally, this is not only the collapse of her spiritual faith but also the feeling of being betrayed by someone she once loved and trusted wholeheartedly.
Notably, she stated that she, her family, and several other Buddhists have officially filed a complaint against Mr. Nhuận Đạt (real name Trần Minh Thành), nun Chơn Giải (real name Hồ Thị Minh), and Mr. Hồ Văn Vàng for fraudulent activities at Hồ Vàng Farm, Phú Thuận village, Mỹ Sơn commune, Khánh Hòa province. The complaint has been sent to the relevant authorities for investigation and handling according to the law.
