Beijing experienced a late but spectacular first snowfall of the season, blanketing the Forbidden City in white and attracting thousands of tourists to admire the breathtaking, rare, and magical scene.
On the morning of December 12th, Beijing (China) experienced its first snowfall of the winter season. From early morning, thin layers of snow covered rooftops and slopes in mountainous areas such as Yanqing, Mentougou, Fangshan, and Haidian. Just a few hours later, the snowflakes spread into the city center, creating a rare sight in the late winter.
Around 11:30 AM, the Forbidden City – now the National Palace Museum – received a thicker layer of snow, covering its characteristic red walls and golden tiled roofs. The ancient scenery became tranquil and mystical, transforming the site into almost a traditional winter painting.
Just before the snow appeared, the Palace Museum's ticketing system announced that all tickets for December 12-13 were sold out. An unusually large number of visitors flocked to the site, as many locals and tourists awaited the moment the snow fell on what is considered the historical heart of China.
According to China Weather, this year's first snowfall in Beijing arrived about nine days later than average. The snow is expected to last until the early morning of December 13th, potentially affecting traffic during rush hour as the streets become slippery.
The meteorological agency advises residents of the capital to limit the use of private vehicles, prioritize public transport, and pay attention to safety while traveling. Due to the sharp drop in temperature, ice and snow may not melt quickly, easily causing traffic jams on major roads.
As the Forbidden City began to be covered in snow, thousands of tourists quickly sought out the most beautiful spots to capture this special moment. One female tourist attracted attention when she appeared in an ancient empress's costume: a long, exquisitely embroidered robe paired with a traditional headdress. She posed in the vast square covered in a thin layer of white snow, creating an image straight out of a historical drama.
Against the backdrop of the white snow, each rooftop and red brick wall suddenly stands out, appearing more poetic and enchanting. Many people linger for a long time just to admire the changing scenery before their eyes. On social media, numerous photo contests with the theme "Beijing snow" have also sprung up, attracting countless posts from residents and tourists.
In popular areas within the Forbidden City, long lines of people queue up to wait their turn to have their photos taken. Every little corner becomes the perfect backdrop for rare winter photographs.
The Beijing Meteorological Observatory said the snowfall occurred exactly as predicted: a stream of moist air from the south met a strong cold air mass from the north at midday on December 12, creating a series of continuous snowfalls. Low temperatures made it difficult for the snow to melt, and a thick layer of snow is expected, corresponding to a snowfall of 2-6 mm.
The city center is likely to remain covered in snow for the next few days. Residents are expected to still see snow this weekend if the weather doesn't change suddenly.
The first snowfall not only transformed the capital's appearance but also brought a sense of excitement to Beijing's residents. As the trees, ancient rooftops, and even modern streets were covered in a thin layer of white, the city suddenly felt like it was celebrating an early New Year.

Phượng Vũ09:46:34 11/02/2024Every morning before 5 p.m., all visitors at China's Palace are forced to leave. Many people wonder why this attraction closed so early.
