A column of black smoke covered the small alley, residents fled in panic
At about 11 p.m. on March 8, when many families were preparing lunch, smoke and fire suddenly broke out violently from the house No. 76/2A Thai Phien Street, near the Cay Go overpass. Due to the time of the fire at midday in the scorching sun, accompanied by the inside of the house containing many flammable materials, the fire quickly "ingested" deep into the structure of the building, rising tens of meters high. The column of black smoke accompanied by a strong burning smell spread throughout the area, causing dozens of surrounding households to panic, shouting for each other to flee to the main road.
Witnesses who were present at the scene recounted in "chills" that the fire spread at an extremely fast speed. "In just a few minutes, the fire spread to the neighboring houses, the heat radiated so terrible that no one dared to approach," a local resident shared. Although the on-site forces mobilized mini fire extinguishers and domestic water hoses to extinguish the fire, all efforts became helpless in the face of the heat and aggression of the fire.
The battle for property in a narrow alley
Immediately after receiving the report, the Fire and Rescue Police Department (PC07) of the Ho Chi Minh City Police. Ho Chi Minh City dispatched dozens of officers, soldiers and many specialized vehicles to the scene. However, firefighting faced major obstacles because the scene was located deep in a narrow alley, making it impossible for fire trucks to approach directly. The soldiers had to implement the plan to connect hundreds of meters of water cannons, weaving through the alleys to bring water to the fire point from many different directions.
After about 30 minutes of efforts to fight the fire, the fire was basically controlled, preventing it from spreading to the entire neighborhood. Initial statistics show that a total of 5 houses were affected, of which 2 were completely burned down, the remaining 3 were covered in smoke and partially damaged structures. Fortunately, the fire did not cause any casualties, but the pain of property left behind was too great.

Standing in disbelief in front of the rubble, Ms. Lam Thi Nghi (23 years old), the owner of house No. 76/2A – where the fire started, could not hold back her tears. She said that this place is dedicated to the business of cosmetic tattooing services. More significantly, the house has just been completed for renovation and investment in modern machinery in February 2026. In less than a month of stable operation, a lot of capital, professional tools and important papers were burned down by the fire after just one afternoon.
"I just started my business again, hoping for a new start, but now I'm empty-handed," Ms. Nghi choked up. Until more than 14 hours on the same day, the functional forces still blocked the scene to carry out the autopsy. The cause of the fire is being coordinated by the Minh Phung Ward Police with the professional units of the Ho Chi Minh City Police. Ho Chi Minh City urgently investigated and clarified. This continues to be a warning bell about fire safety in residential areas with small alleys, especially establishments combining housing and business.
