When Thuong Tin passed away, only one artist sent flowers, causing outrage among his younger colleagues in the US.

Actor Thuong Tin has been laid to rest in the embrace of his motherland, Phan Rang, the place where he was born and where he spent his final years.

The funeral was quiet, without fanfare, attended by relatives and neighbors – those who had been close to him since he returned to his hometown to live out his final years.

His two children, Bui Thanh Tung - his son from his first wife, and Bui Thach Thao - his youngest daughter from his fourth wife, dressed in simple clothes and leaning on canes, accompanied their father to his final resting place. The sight of the two children silently standing beside the coffin moved many to tears.

According to the family, besides musician Tô Hiếu, who was present from the moment he breathed his last until he was taken to the cemetery, only artist Hồng Tơ sent flowers as a condolence. No other artists came to pay their respects or sent wreaths, which saddened many people as they remembered the time when Thương Tín was a renowned star of Vietnamese cinema.

Singer Dan Kim expressed her emotion upon learning of the absence of colleagues at Thuong Tin's funeral: "In the past few days, I've read many newspapers and followed the news, feeling pained by the fickleness of life. Many newspapers reported that not a single artist came to pay their respects to Thuong Tin. I know his home is in faraway Phan Rang, but why wasn't there a representative or even a wreath sent to bid him farewell? Where are the older artists, those who were his contemporaries? The duty to the deceased is paramount."

She added that reading those messages made her sad: "When times are good, even distant paths seem close. When times are over, even close paths seem far." After learning that only comedian Hong To sent flowers, she called to inquire about the situation and asked about how Thuong Tin's grave was being built. "I want to know so that if needed, I can help build him a tomb, whether big or small. I didn't know Thuong Tin personally, but to me, he's a part of my childhood memories," Dan Kim shared.

Poet Phùng Hiệu, to whom Thương Tín entrusted his final thoughts, said that about half a month before his death, the actor called him in a weakened state, unable to walk.

Sensing his final days were drawing near, Thuong Tin confided: "I wish someone would organize a reunion for me, so I could meet my fellow artists and thank them for helping me through those difficult years." However, this simple wish remained unfulfilled as he passed away.

Previously, Ms. Hanh – his younger sister – said that in his final years, Thuong Tin lived at his mother's house in his hometown and was cared for by his four sisters and two brothers in turns. Ms. Hanh and Ms. Hien were the two closest to him. "There are four sisters in the family, and whoever could help him did so, some contributing their time, others their money, so that he could be cared for in his final days," Ms. Hanh shared.

Recalling the events of December 8th, she recounted that when she saw her brother was so weak, she and her younger brother planned to take him to the hospital the next morning. But before they could take him, Thuong Tin passed away that evening.

Ms. Hien, another of his sisters, also said that before his death, the actor did not leave any last wishes. The family intended to place him in a nursing home near their home to make it easier for him to get around, but all plans were left unfinished. Thuong Tin's mother is 90 years old this year. Although the family tried to keep the sad news hidden, she still learned about it and was heartbroken by her son's passing.
