On the evening of February 26, the movie "Anh trai say hi: The villain creates the hero" officially hit theaters. Including early screenings, the movie earned more than 6.8 billion VND, according to Box Office Vietnam statistics as of the morning of February 28.
The film's content reviews the hits "Catch me if you can", "Star rank A", "Walk", "First love too drunk"... and reveals stories that have never been shared by the brothers such as the challenges, pressures, and process of participating in the program.
However, the appearance time of the "older brothers" has a significant difference. "Hot" faces such as HIEUTHUHAI, Quang Hung MasterD, Duong Domic, RHYDER, Hurrykng or Phap Kieu appeared in many replayed performances, with long separate interviews.
Meanwhile, some singers did not have personal interviews or performances included in the documentary. Throughout the 120-minute duration, Lou Hoang and Pham Anh Duy did not appear in any scene except for the song "Say hi never say goodbye" with all 30 contestants at the beginning of the film. They were only on screen for a few seconds during their singing part.
Even Negav - a singer involved in a scandal related to his speech and behavior, also shared a long story near the end of the film. Meanwhile, many other brothers such as Anh Tu, Atus, Duc Phuc, Erik... were not mentioned by name or mentioned in the documentary, although they contributed significantly to the success of the program. Notably, MC Tran Thanh, who is considered the "soul" of Anh trai "say hi", also only appeared in a few vague scenes, without any speech or sharing.
Tage, Ali Hoang Duong, Quang Trung and many other brothers were almost absent. Some of the most famous songs in the program such as Ngo Ngo, Ngao Nghe... were not shown, which was also a regret for the audience who loved the program.
In this documentary, Tran Thanh also appeared faintly, instead, the thoughts and concerns of Music Director JustaTee were shown. Many viewers regretted not being able to see the story behind the stage of MC Tran Thanh, because he was an important person who contributed to the success of Anh trai say hi.
Although the documentary is short and cannot cover the entire journey of 30 people, the development from a TV show to an entertainment brand, the audience still thinks that the singers' limited appearances are a disadvantage.
Fans also argued that popular figures were heavily featured, both in interviews and in their songs, while others were virtually invisible.
"Anh trai say hi: The villain creates the hero" is a special experience for the audience to approach the real, intimate aspects of the brothers behind the stage's spotlight, while recreating on the big screen the moments that fans and the brothers experienced together at 4 concert nights in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in 2024.
With the theme of "villains", the film explores the dark corners that artists have to face on their artistic journey. "Villains" can be the prejudice that domestic idols are always inferior to international names, or it can be the fears and doubts that the "older brothers" have to overcome...
Quang Hung MasterD shared that he himself is also his own "villain". He admitted that he used to be too safe, until he joined the program, he realized his old way of thinking. Thanks to that, he learned to face his own limits and rise up.
Meanwhile, Captain Boy has a different perspective on "villains": "The brothers around me, when they love each other very much, I call them rivals. It's competition to help each other become better. No matter how people define the word rival, to me, it's the motivation for both of us to develop together."
The champion of Say Hi Brother - HIEUTHUHAI shared: "The film is very emotional for me, marking a milestone for myself and for 30 brothers in their career journey. This result is the sweet fruit after difficult and skeptical days of the brothers here".
Quang Hung is favored in the concert film Anh trai say hi, creating a Vietnamese box office record.
