In the middle of September, the news that People's Artist Tran Hieu had to be hospitalized in an emergency made the public worried. At the age of nearly 90, the health of the Vietnamese music industry giant faced a "life-threatening" challenge when he had to be admitted to the 108th Military Central Hospital for emergency treatment. The reason is that the cancer has metastasized to the jawbone, forming a serious abscess in the maxillofacial area. Doctors quickly performed surgery to treat the foci of infection and the abscess area.

After 10 days of active treatment at Hospital 108, People's Artist Tran Hieu was transferred to the National Geriatric Hospital to continue treatment for severe kidney failure. At this time, his health condition was extremely weak. His advanced age along with many underlying diseases made him sometimes fall into a critical condition, the prognosis was more bad than good. The serious deterioration of his health made Mrs. Minh Nga, his wife, sadly share: "My husband's life is now measured in days, not weeks, his health has seriously deteriorated."

Recent positive signs

Despite facing great health challenges, good news came when People's Artist Tran Hieu's spirit and physical condition showed positive signs of improvement. People's Artist Quoc Hung, one of his close students, visited him on the weekend and shared with the press that he was much more stable. He was able to sit up and talk and eat better. Although his memory has somewhat declined due to age and illness, the artist still maintains an optimistic, cheerful spirit and promptly recognizes his students.

Ms. Minh Nga also confirmed this. Although her husband's health has improved, she is still weak. The problem of severe kidney failure is causing leg edema, and he has to strictly adhere to a special diet. In addition, after the surgery to treat the abscess, his jaw was still misaligned and needed to be continued treatment with drugs combined with daily saline rinsing.

Hearts of Relatives and Colleagues

During this difficult period, People's Artist Tran Hieu received dedicated care from his family and deep attention from colleagues and students. For nearly a year, he and his wife have been picked up from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi by their nephew named Binh.

Currently, the two grandparents are living in an apartment in Vong Thi Street (Hanoi). This nephew not only took care of the hospital fees but also went directly to the hospital to take care of her, and at the same time hired more people to help Mrs. Minh Nga because she was worried that she was not healthy enough to take care of her husband.

Not only family, but the feelings of writers and artists are also a great source of encouragement. Recently, musician Tran Tien and his wife (younger brother of People's Artist Tran Hieu) when they went to Hanoi to receive the Bui Xuan Phai Award visited him. Close students such as People's Artist Quoc Hung, People's Artist Tan Minh, singer Trong Tan and many others still regularly visit and support as family members.
