Under the bright lights of the stadium, Nguyen Dinh Bac is a "star." But behind those flattering words, the striker born in 2004 still retains the essence of a humble young man from Nghe An, always considering his family as the sole springboard for all his success.
A "star" emerges from adversity.
In the current Vietnam U23 squad, Nguyen Dinh Bac is a name that has attracted particular media attention. Ahead of crucial matches against long-standing rivals like China U23, he is expected to be the "hero" who can create breakthroughs. However, few know that Dinh Bac's path to professional football was once in danger of being closed off right from the start.
Born in Hung Yen Bac 2 hamlet, Yen Trung commune, Nghe An province, Dinh Bac showed early talent in school football tournaments. At the age of 10, he joined the SLNA Youth Training Center. However, in the 8th grade, "Bac Coi" (his childhood nickname) was unexpectedly sent back by his hometown club because of his small physique.
Early failures did not deter the young man. With the trust of his family, Bac traveled to Hue and Quang Nam to seek new opportunities. It was his perseverance and unwavering effort that transformed a "skinny" boy who had been rejected into an irreplaceable pillar of the national team in his twenties.
A strong support system from a purely farming family.
Although not born into a wealthy family – his father was a farmer, his mother a small-scale trader – Dinh Bac was fortunate to have the unwavering support of his parents. His father, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Ap, recalls the hot days when he drove his motorbike 20km from home to training sessions every week. When busy, his youngest uncle would take turns looking after him.
The silent sacrifices of his family were the greatest source of motivation for Dinh Bac to overcome difficult times. Sharing his thoughts about his son, Mr. Ap only wished for one simple thing: "I hope my son maintains his sociable personality and strives to compete for the honor of his country."
"Family is the only thing that truly lasts."
Returning from the glory of major tournaments like the SEA Games, Dinh Bac shed his image as a fierce player to become a true "neighborhood youth." He prefers the feeling of gathering around the family dinner table and meeting neighbors to noisy entertainment venues.
In a television interview, Dinh Bac once stated: "I only focus on football; I don't have any other talents besides football. I really enjoy going home." Even during short breaks in his hometown of Nghe An, people still see him diligently training to maintain his fitness and form.
The 20-year-old striker's philosophy of life is encapsulated in a status update he once shared: "Family is the only thing that truly matters!" This is the "anchor" that helps Dinh Bac keep his feet on the ground amidst media praise and fan adoration.
The future of the "Golden Star Warriors"
With his proven talent and strong moral character, Nguyen Dinh Bac possesses all the qualities to become a new icon of Vietnamese football. His humility, ambition, and deep love for his family are the weapons that help him not only win on the field but also capture the hearts of the public.
