Cascio's family has filed a new lawsuit against the late singer Michael Jackson, presenting several controversial pieces of information. The case has attracted attention because they had previously publicly defended the "King of Pop."
According to the 23-page lawsuit filed in February, the plaintiffs include Edward Cascio, Dominic Cascio, Aldo Cascio, and his sister Marie-Nicole Porte. In the lawsuit, they allege that as children, the singer allowed them to use alcohol and illicit substances, leading to years of misconduct. The lawsuit claims these incidents allegedly began when they were around 7–8 years old.
Edward Cascio stated that these events occurred during several international trips with Michael Jackson. Some of these coincided with the singer's Dangerous World Tour. The locations Edward mentioned included Elizabeth Taylor's home in Switzerland, Elton John's house in England, and the famous Neverland Ranch in California (USA).
Meanwhile, Marie-Nicole Porte also provided similar information. She claimed to have encountered inappropriate situations during several trips with Michael Jackson at Neverland Ranch, New York, Las Vegas, and Florida. Additionally, she stated that the singer had tried to approach her in an inappropriate way while he lived in Bahrain for a period after 2005.
What drew attention was that Cascio's family had previously publicly defended Michael Jackson against allegations of child abuse. After the singer's death in 2009, Frank Cascio Jr. even published a memoir in 2011 to protect the reputation of the "King of Pop" and refute the allegations surrounding him. For many years, Jackson's fans also cited Cascio's family as proof that the previous accusations lacked basis.
However, after the documentary Leaving Neverland was released in 2019, the Cascio members said they began to re-examine their past memories. According to them, as children, they were manipulated and psychologically controlled, thus becoming victims in this story.
In their new lawsuit, Cascio's family also mentioned a confidential settlement agreement they had reached with Michael Jackson's side. According to the filing, they allegedly received a sum of money in exchange for not taking the dispute to public court, and all matters were to be resolved through confidential arbitration.
Last February, Michael Jackson's estate management team objected to Cascio's family filing a new lawsuit. The late singer's legal representatives argued that this move violated a previous agreement and asserted that the lawsuit's allegations were unfounded. They also claimed the plaintiffs were attempting to exert financial pressure.
According to Jackson's lawyers, the plaintiffs had previously requested compensation of up to $213 million. Conversely, the lawyers representing Cascio's family asserted that their client was coerced into signing the settlement agreement in 2020. They argued that a civil settlement cannot be used to conceal acts of harm against children and requested the court to declare the agreement invalid so that the case could be tried publicly.
The court is currently encouraging the parties to continue resolving the dispute through arbitration as per the previously signed agreement. Previously, in 2005, Michael Jackson faced trial in a case related to allegations of harming a teenager. After a five-month trial, the jury acquitted him.
The new lawsuit comes as Jackson's estate fund is still facing other legal disputes involving Wade Robson and James Safechuck, two figures who appeared in the film Leaving Neverland.
In 2009, the singer died from a drug overdose while preparing for a global tour. After his death, his entire estate was transferred to the Michael Jackson estate fund according to his will. According to Parade magazine, by 2025, the value of this estate is estimated at approximately $2 billion.
