According to China Times, the Taiwanese entertainment industry was shocked by the news that veteran artist Cao Xiping was found dead at his home. What's particularly concerning is that his body had already shown signs of decomposition, yet no one was aware of it.
Authorities said that initial investigations at the scene, Cao Xiping's home in Sanzhong District, New Taipei City, revealed no signs of foul play. Cao Xiping was handed over to his family and laid to rest at the Banqiao Funeral Home for relatives and friends to pay their respects.
The passing of Cao Xiping has left many colleagues and fans deeply saddened, especially since just days before, he had appeared on social media sharing insightful reflections on life. In early December, the artist wrote that the last month of the year was "a month of gratitude," because looking back, he realized he had so much to cherish. Those simple yet sincere words are now being reread by many, evoking a sense of profound sadness.
On December 28th, just one day before his death, Cao Xiping mentioned the earthquake in Taiwan. He wrote: "After experiencing the earthquake, I will no longer run, I will just sit still and leave everything to fate... Whatever happens, happens; thinking too much is useless. At this age, what else is there to think about?" This detached and calm expression in the face of life and death sent shivers down the public's spine when placed in the current context.
Looking back on his journey, Cao Xiping once affirmed that he had no regrets. He believed that he had lived and worked ethically, living up to the expectations of his parents – who worked in the medical field. For the artist, what made him most proud was that his parents could proudly introduce him to others: "This is my son."
Cao Xiping was born into a family with a medical tradition; his father was a urologist, and the family was quite well-off. He had three older brothers and a younger brother, and as the fourth child, he was affectionately called "Fourth Brother" by his fans. After enlisting in the army and joining a performing arts troupe, he began to engage with performing arts, thus embarking on a career in singing and television.
In 1982, at the age of 23, Cao Xiping debuted with the song "Wild Youth," quickly gaining recognition for his free-spirited and energetic style. Beyond music, he was also active in television, becoming a familiar face on many popular programs such as "Dragon Tiger Variety Show," "Lai Mian 50," and "La Mei Tong Dong Yuan." During his peak, Cao Xiping's name was associated with the image of a straightforward, individualistic artist who wasn't afraid to express his opinions.
In 2002, due to a family inheritance dispute, Cao Xiping decided to withdraw from the entertainment industry. A year later, he opened a crepe shop in his hometown to make a living. In 2005, after his father's death, he went to Thailand to rest and almost completely disappeared from the screen. It wasn't until 2010 that Cao Xiping returned to the arts, though no longer in the same star status as before.
In recent years, he has made a living by running an earring shop, living by the philosophy of "living within one's means." Cao Xiping often shares his daily life on social media, occasionally livestreaming to chat with fans.
