Recently, an emergency announcement from MC - actor Cat Tuong on his personal page has attracted great attention from the online community, once again sounding the alarm about the problem of impersonating artists to defraud and profit in cyberspace.
Sophisticated Scams and Terrible Damage
In the announcement, MC Cat Tuong shared: "The announcement of the nth scam ... I ask the audience to share widely and read these contents carefully so that no overseas Vietnamese will be deceived anymore." She emphasized that despite repeated warnings, unfortunately, many viewers still easily believe fake pages, especially these pages often spend money on advertising, so they have a higher reach than her main page with a green tick.
In order for the audience not to be deceived, the female MC clearly affirmed the following points: She did not participate in any matchmaking shows, dates or activities calling for money. She does not advertise, does not cooperate in business, buys and sells with any individuals or organizations abroad. She did not have free time to "chat and chat" with the audience and then call for payment to participate in the meeting. All such behavior is "completely fraudulent".
The most worrying thing is the disclosure of the actual damages. MC Cat Tuong said that many viewers have become victims of these scam lines, with the amount of money lost ranging from a few hundred, a few thousand, a few tens of thousands of USD. In particular, there is a case where the audience was scammed with a terrible amount of up to several hundred thousand US dollars.
"Tuong heard the number and fell off his limbs. I don't know how you can transfer so many times, so much money?" Cat Tuong recounted. The female MC shared more about her helplessness when a victim came to ask her to hire a lawyer to sue, but it is extremely difficult to sue who and how to sue with virtual information and websites created in a sophisticated way. She could only promise to support her if the victim returned to Vietnam to carry out legal procedures.
The common problem of Vietnamese artists
MC Cat Tuong's story is not unique, but a typical example of the increasingly complicated situation of artist impersonation on social networks. Before Cat Tuong, many other famous Vietnamese artists such as Viet Huong, Nha Phuong, Quyen Linh... have also fallen into a miserable situation because of account forgery and illegal image abuse.
Scammers only need a few collage photos and a few words to create trust to easily bypass unwary users. They take advantage of the audience's prestige and love for celebrities to hit the mentality of "seeing celebrities and believing", making many people gullible "money is lost" through the tricks of advertising virtual, low-quality products or even tempting them to transfer money for investment.
Shared responsibility of the online community
In the era of booming digital technology, information verification has become extremely important. To protect themselves, viewers need to keep in mind the recommendations: Only follow and trust profiles with verified green ticks. Absolutely do not transfer money or provide personal information without clearly verifying the origin and purpose. Be wary of invitations to "chat chit", "meet" or "invest" that may seem tempting but require a fee.
From the heartbreaking experience of MC Cat Tuong and many other artists, it can be seen that today's celebrities not only face professional pressure but also have to fight daily with the problem of fraud and impersonation. Maintaining a clean image is not only an artist's personal effort but also a common responsibility of the entire online community in sharing, warning and protecting trust and respect in the digital space.
Cinderella has been on a downward spiral lately, surpassed by her younger sister, regretting dropping out of studying abroad.
