News that singer LyLy will be playing one of the main roles in Tran Thanh's 2026 Lunar New Year film has caused a stir online. Netizens are eagerly trying to find out the identity of this special girl.
In the Vietnamese music scene, LyLy, whose real name is Nguyen Hoang Ly and who was born in 1996, is always a special case. A young artist who emerged from difficult circumstances, rising to success through passion and remarkable perseverance. Looking at her current career with a series of hit songs and an increasingly mature image in the eyes of the public, few know that LyLy once went through a turbulent period, even at times wanting to give up music.
The difficult beginnings of a girl who left college to pursue her passion.
Before achieving fame, LyLy was a member of the girl group Hello Yellow. However, her musical journey began earlier and was more challenging. She took a risk by dropping out of university and moving to Ho Chi Minh City alone to pursue her dream of singing. In her early years, LyLy had to sing in tea rooms, events, and cafes to make ends meet. Struggling for two years, she often wanted to give up due to financial pressure and a lack of opportunities to shine.
However, it was her passion for art that kept LyLy in the world of music. She participated in the Sing My Song competition and impressed with her clear, sweet voice. Even so, the show ended without LyLy truly taking off. She was almost completely absent from the music scene for quite a long time. But quietly working and composing, one day, LyLy suddenly rose to prominence with a series of songs like "24h," "Don't Love, Don't Make Me Miss You,"... opening a new phase in her career.
From singer to hit-maker: The hand that created the success for a series of young artists.
In the following years, LyLy consistently demonstrated her songwriting abilities. Both professionals and audiences praised her as a "lucky songwriter," creating trendy, catchy hits that appealed to young people. She was behind a series of popular songs such as: "Anh nhà ở đâu thế" (Where Do You Live, My Love?), "Đen đá không đường" (Black Coffee Without Sugar), "Sao anh chưa về nhà" (Why Haven't You Come Home Yet?) (AMEE); "Không sao mà em đây rồi" (It's Okay, I'm Here) (Suni Hạ Linh); and "Missing You" (Phương Ly).
In parallel, LyLy also composed a series of songs for herself that gained widespread popularity: "24h," "Sweet Words," "Don't Love, Don't Cause Heartache," etc. These works not only helped her affirm her unique style in songwriting but also built the image of a multi-talented female artist.
In 2023, LyLy unexpectedly registered and became the only Vietnamese contestant to participate in the Chinese reality TV show The Next Stage. The show brought together 27 artists from Asia along with a star-studded panel of mentors such as Ella, Zhou Shen, Wang Jiaer, NingNing (aespa)...
Here, contestants had to go through intense team-forming and elimination rounds. Despite facing a lot of pressure regarding language, culture, and training intensity, LyLy said it was still an extremely valuable experience.
However, unlike the explosive impact of Chi Pu's appearance in "Beautiful Sister Riding the Waves," LyLy didn't achieve the same level of popularity. Nevertheless, her appearance still provided Vpop with a fresh and unique representative for the Chinese entertainment market.
Controversy surrounding a contract dispute with Chau Dang Khoa.
In late February 2020, Vietnamese showbiz was rocked when Orange and LyLy simultaneously released messages revealing intense conflict with Superbrothers, a company run by musician Chau Dang Khoa.
Both artists accused the company of a lack of transparency in paying their fees, even alleging that it created gimmicks to draw attention to the artists. Orange and LyLy asserted that if they did not receive a satisfactory explanation, they were ready to sue the company. LyLy, in particular, expressed disappointment that after the success of her song "24h" at the end of 2018, she had almost no outstanding personal projects, and what she shared, along with screenshots of messages, is considered evidence of the company's lack of financial transparency.
After about a month of silence, Chau Dang Khoa has officially spoken out. He stated that the revenue sharing between the artist and the company has been clearly adjusted to a 70:30 ratio after both parties re-signed the contract. Regarding creating scandals to promote "Tinh Nhan Oi ," the musician admitted to using such tactics. Notably, he stated that according to the contract, when the artist unilaterally terminates the collaboration, both Orange and LyLy must compensate 5 billion VND.
In 2022, after nearly two years of silence, LyLy unexpectedly announced that the conflict between her and Superbrothers had been resolved. She apologized to the company, to Chau Dang Khoa and Vy Quach for unilaterally releasing unverified information that affected their reputation. LyLy also thanked the company for their time together and apologized to the audience for the unnecessary controversy.
Their ambiguous relationship with Anh Tú: Not publicly announced, but always "shipped" by fans.
LyLy is an introvert, so in showbiz, she's only close to a few people, most notably Anh Tú and comedian Trường Giang. The singer calls Trường Giang "uncle" because he's a close friend of her mother.
Regarding Anh Tú specifically, the two have been rumored to be dating since 2020 when they collaborated on a music project. Since then, they have been repeatedly spotted checking in at the same locations, wearing matching outfits, and interacting closely both on stage and in everyday life. In particular, their affectionate glances and gestures have fueled strong online speculation about their relationship.
However, both chose to remain silent. Anh Tú once said, "This is a golden time for my career, so I don't want to be distracted." He prioritizes family, his audience, and his career over romantic relationships.
LyLy, for her part, shared that rumors are unavoidable. She affirmed that she has never used her romantic relationships to boost her fame: "Whether the rumors are true or not, I would never use my private life for PR." The singer views rumors as a kind of entertainment "spice," as long as they don't affect her music.

On the afternoon of December 11th, Tran Thanh caused a stir on social media when he released the first look trailer for his new movie, "Tho Oi!". Surprisingly, besides the rumored female lead, rapper Phao, the trailer also revealed the appearance of LyLy, marking her first foray into acting.
LyLy appears in more than half of the trailer, playing the role of the new "leading lady" recruited by Tran Thanh. With her stunning, almost AI-like appearance, porcelain skin, and gentle yet captivating demeanor, LyLy has received countless compliments. Audiences are eagerly anticipating whether she can make a breakthrough in acting, similar to what Chi Pu achieved in China.
