Ly Hai set up a big award in the US, "Flip Face 8" shines in the international star forest

Director Ly Hai and "Flip Face 8: Sunshine Bracelet" won big at the San Francisco International Film Festival 2025, winning two important awards, affirming the position of Vietnamese cinema in the international arena.

On November 12, good news came to Vietnamese cinema when director Ly Hai and his work "Flip Face 8: The Embrace of the Sun" were named at the San Francisco International New Concept Film Festival (SFNCFF 2025). The work not only helped Ly Hai bring home the "Best Film Director" award, but also won the category "Best Vietnamese Feature Film", affirming the position of the film brand "Flip Face" after nearly a decade of development.

The SFNCFF Film Festival is a prestigious annual event that brings together independent filmmakers and groundbreaking works from more than 30 countries and territories. Representatives from the US, UK, France, Japan, South Korea, China, Canada, Germany, India, Vietnam... compete together, creating a colorful picture of global cinema.

"Flip Face 8: Sunshine Bracelet" is a project directly written, directed and produced by Ly Hai, with the familiar companionship of Minh Ha – his wife – in the role of co-producer. The film will be released to Vietnamese audiences from April 30, 2025, after early screenings from April 27 to 29, quickly becoming one of the most popular Vietnamese films of the summer.

Not only stopping at the domestic market, "Flip Face" also created a miracle when it was released simultaneously on 4 continents: North America, Europe, Australia and Japan. The film revolves around the character Tam (Doan The Vinh) – a boy who nurtures a passion for music but always faces opposition from his conservative father (played by Long Handsome).
