The minishow by singer Hong Phuong - granddaughter of the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh - has just concluded in Ho Chi Minh City, but its aftermath continues to spark discussion.
After the show, an audience member unexpectedly took to social media to complain that security guards prevented them from entering the show, even though they claimed to have bought a ticket for nearly 2 million VND.
The information quickly spread on social media and sparked controversy regarding the organization, ticket control, and attitude towards the audience.
In response to this feedback, Hong Phuong stated that she always appreciates those who have paid for tickets and has no reason to refuse entry to eligible audience members.
Hong Phuong also stated that she only says no to any provocative, disruptive behavior or actions intended to ruin the overall atmosphere of the performance.
At the same time, show promoter Thuy Le, who frequently organizes performances for Hong Phuong, also spoke out to explain. She stated that the A13 ticket that the audience member posted on social media actually belonged to the driver of a famous person and was used to enter the venue to place a bouquet of flowers worth $5,000 as a gift for the show. The ticket had been stamped for verification and was therefore in a "used" state, not a valid ticket "not yet entered." Thuy Le argued that the audience member used a used ticket to manipulate public opinion and "attack" the show.
However, instead of ending the controversy, this explanation sparked new opinions. Many began questioning the concept of "flower-giving assistance," the staging of flower-giving, and whether or not people were hired to create a show effect. One commenter wrote: "Anyone familiar with flower-giving services, please tell me what 'flower-giving assistance' means? Does it mean arranged flower giving, not that the audience gives the flowers themselves? And for example, if that $5000 is given, will it be returned to us or can the singer keep it?" From this question, the discussion shifted to ticket prices and the show's business prospects.
Hong Phuong admitted that the concert was a loss despite selling tickets at high prices. According to the singer, the money earned was "not even half of the expenses." She confided that what she felt was the audience's affection and the opportunity to organize a meaningful commemorative event for her career. However, some audience members linked the admission of losses to suspicions that the organizers had to drastically reduce ticket prices or seek sponsors to "subsidize tickets" in order to fill the venue without publicly disclosing the information.
One audience member questioned: "The point is, the tickets cost 1.8 million VND, but they didn't sell well, so the organizers had to subsidize them. For example, if the price was 1.8 million VND, the sponsors would pay 1.3 million VND per ticket, and the audience only paid 500,000 VND. Sponsors are the hardest hit people on earth. And yet they still complain about losses." These comments escalated the discussion beyond accusations of ticket blocking, expanding it into a debate about how music shows operate under a socialized model and the techniques used to create media buzz.
To date, Hong Phuong and show organizer Thuy Le have not given a specific response regarding the allegations of subsidizing tickets or hiring people to deliver flowers. The artists in the production team have also remained silent. The public continues to await further developments to determine the accuracy of the information surrounding this controversial minishow.
Singer Hong Phuong was born into a family with a tradition in the arts; her uncle is Meritorious Artist Vu Linh, artist Tieu Linh, and her mother is also the once-famous actress Hong Nhung.
That's why she inherited artistic talent from her family. However, she also faces a lot of pressure as audiences constantly compare her to the towering figures of her mother and uncle.
Although many members of her family chose the path of Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) and became big stars, Hong Phuong decided to pursue the Bolero genre of sentimental music.
Hong Phuong diligently practiced, wanting to follow in Vu Linh's footsteps, but her performance of Ho Quang singing was immediately criticized.
